Jose Nandhikkara CMI (born 16 February 1964) is a professor of philosophy [1] at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram and Christ University, [2] [3] both in Bangalore, India. He is the author of several books including Environmental Interface: Literature, Law, Science, Philosophy and Ethical Interface: Literature, Economics, Politics, Religion.

Birth and education

Jose Nandhikkara was born on 16 February 1964. He joined the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (C.M.I.), Devamatha province, Thrissur. He studied Bachelor of Philosophy (1986) and Bachelor of Theology (1993) at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bengaluru.

Career and post-graduate study

On 1 January 1994, he was ordained a priest in the Syro-Malabar Church. He then studied for his Licentiate in Systematic Philosophy at Gregorian University, Rome [4] Italy and graduated in 1997. His Licentiate thesis was “Natural Religion according to J. H. Newman.” In 1999, he completed an MA in Philosophy and Theology at Oxford University, UK. His thesis title was “Religion according to Ludwig Wittgenstein.” He earned a PhD in Philosophy at Warwick University, UK, in 2004; his dissertation title was "Being Human from a Religious Point of View after Wittgenstein." [2]

Nandhikkara is a Fellow with the International Dialogue Centre - KAICIID [5] and is Chief Editor of the Journal of Dharma. [6]

Thomas Aykara CMI is the rector of Dharmaram College in Bengaluru, India. He is a Catholic priest of the Syro-Malabar Church. He joined the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI)Carmelites of Mary Immaculate congregation, St. Joseph's Province Kottayam in 1954. He is a philosopher, theologian and religious. He is a scholar, teacher, author and thinker. Several academic centres in India and abroad originated through the efforts of Thomas Aykara.

Kurian Kachappilly, born 6 July 1955, at Mallussery, in Kerala, India, is a Catholic priest of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) order, and a professor of philosophy, religion and Business Ethics.

Osthathios Pathros was an Indian Syriac Orthodox bishop, and Metropolitan of Bangalore Diocese. He belonged to the Pulikottil family of Kunnamkulam. He took the initiative in the formation of Coimbatore Christian Ecumenical Fellowship.

<i>Journal of Dharma</i> Academic journal

The Journal of Dharma is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal covering discussion and debates on philosophies and religions. It was established in 1975 and is published by Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram. The editor-in-chief is Jose Nandhikkara. Besides regular articles, the journal also includes book reviews of recently released books in philosophy.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Saju Chackalackal</span> Indian philosopher (born 1965)

Saju Chackalackal is an Indian author and professor of Philosophy at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram Bangalore. He is also a Catholic religious priest of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate Congregation. He is a Kantian scholar who obtained a PhD from Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas Rome. He was the former chief editor of the Journal of Dharma. He has authored many books and articles. He was instrumental in preparing a number of course materials for Indira Gandhi National Open University, Delhi. He was elected as the Provincial of CMI Preshitha Province, Coimbatore. He continues the title for the second term too.

Mar Thomas Padiyath is an Indian Catholic prelate of the Syro-Malabar Church in India, currently serving as an auxiliary bishop in the Eparchy of Shamshabad.
