Joseph Kaven CBE is a Papua New Guinean physician who works at Nonga Base Hospital, Rabaul, East New Britain. [1] [2] He has worked on improving health service access to rural areas of Papua New Guinea. [3]
Kaven was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2009 Birthday Honours for "service to health and medical research, particularly in infectious disease control". [4] [5]
Michael Nali CBE is a Papua New Guinean politician. He was the leader of the People's Progress Party from 2002 to 2007 and was Member of Parliament for the electorate of Mendi Open, in Southern Highlands Province, from 1992 until 2007. During this period he held various ministerial positions, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry. At the 2007 general election he chose to contest the Southern Highlands Provincial electorate, which was won by Anderson Agiru.
The Papua New Guinean honours system is the main system of honouring citizens of Papua New Guinea for their services to the country; it consists of three Orders and several medals. After independence, Papua New Guinea used the Imperial honours system, however, in recognition of the nation's 30th anniversary, a new awards system was adopted. The official announcement of its creation was made by Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare on 12 November 2004 and the first investitures were performed by the Princess Royal in early October 2005. The Imperial honours system is still in use as well, however, and the Queen issues a Papua New Guinean List as part of every Birthday and New Year Honours List.

Allan S. M. Marat CBE is a Papua New Guinean politician. He served as Minister for Justice and Attorney General in Prime Minister Michael Somare's Cabinet from August 2007 to May 2010. In May 2010, he publicly stated that major mining projects in the country brought little benefit to local communities, workers or businesses. He also "questioned legislation affecting the Ombudsman Commission". Prime Minister Somare consequently asked him to resign immediately, which he did. As a consequence of his resignation, Marat informed the Prime Minister that his Melanesian Liberal Party would "cut ties" with the government. He was replaced as Attorney General and Justice Minister by Ano Pala.
