Jotham Tumwesigye is a Ugandan lawyer and judge who has served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda since 2009. [1] [2]
He was born in Uganda circa 1948. [2] He graduated from Makerere University in 1974, with a Bachelor of Laws. He also holds a Diploma in Legal Practice. [2]
Following his graduation from the Law Development Centre, he worked as a state attorney in the Uganda Ministry of Justice until 1981. [3]
Between 1981 and 1986, he lived in exile in Kenya, where he lectured at the Kenya Institute of Administration; the institution which is now the Kenya School of Government. [2] He was part of the group that crafted the 1995 Uganda Constitution. Later, he served as the Inspector General of Government and then as chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission. [4] From 2000 until 2009, he served as the Inspector General of Government (IGG). In 2009, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Uganda. [3] [4]
In addition to his duties at the Supreme Court, Jotham Tumwesigye concurrently serves as the head of the "Judicial Integrity Committee", which monitors the integrity of judicial officers. He also represented the Uganda judiciary on the "Judicial Service Commission", a position he took over from the former Chief Justice, Bart Magunda Katureebe. [5] He previously served as chairman of the "Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration", a division of the Uganda Ministry of Internal Affairs. [3] [4]
John Wilson Nattubu Tsekooko, was a Ugandan lawyer and judge, who served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda, from 1994 until 2015.
Bart Magunda Katureebe is a Ugandan judge and the former Chief Justice of Uganda. He was appointed to that position on 5 March 2015. Before that, he was a justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda.
Benjamin Josses Odoki is a former Chief Justice of Uganda, former Supreme Court Justice of Eswatini, and current Chairman of the Committee of Constitutional Experts for Drafting the EAC Political Federation Constitution, the committee drafting the constitution for the East African Confederation. Odoki served as the tenth Chief Justice of Uganda from 2001 to 2013 after fifteen years as a Judge on the Supreme Court of Uganda. He was a State Attorney of Uganda previous to his appointment to the court in 1986.
Esther Mayambala Kisaakye is a Ugandan judge. She is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda. She was appointed to that position in July 2009.

Rubby Opio Aweri, also Rubby Aweri Opio was a Ugandan lawyer and judge, who served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda, from September 2015. In August 2017, the Judiciary named him as the new Chief Inspector of Courts on a three-year term.
Richard Buteera, also Richard Butera, is a Ugandan lawyer and judge who has served as a member of the Supreme Court of Uganda since September 2017. Immediately prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court, he served as a Justice of the Uganda Court of Appeal.
The Court of Appeal of Uganda is the second-highest judicial organ in Uganda. It derives its powers from Article 134 of the 1995 Constitution. It is an appellate court when hearing cases appealed from the High Court of Uganda. However, it has original jurisdiction when adjudicating matters relating to the constitutionality of matters before it. All judgments by the Court of Appeal are theoretically appealable to the Supreme Court of Uganda, if the Supreme Court decides to hear the appeal.

The High Court of Uganda, also Uganda High Court, is the third-highest judicial organ in Uganda, behind the Supreme Court of Uganda and the Court of Appeal of Uganda.
