Joxe Austin Arrieta Ugartetxea (born 26 October 1949) is a Basque writer and translator.
Arrieta was born in Donostia, Gipuzkoa. He obtained a degree in Philosophy and Literature (Romanic Philology). From 1982 until he retired, he worked at a bank as a translator. He has been a teacher and a lecturer at the EUTG School of Languages and Philosophy. He has also worked in other areas of Basque culture, collaborating with associations like UZEI and UEU. [1]
He has taken political positions in the field of culture and Basque language. [1]
He has written poetry and narrative and has also excelled as a literary translator. His first published work was Bidaia-Termitosti (Ustela, 1978) a book of short stories. After that, in 1979, Arrieta published his first novel, Abuztuaren 15eko bazkalondoa. Among his poetry books, Mintzoen mintzak (Elkar, 1989) and Graffitien ganbara (Kutxa, 1995) stand out. [2] But Arrieta is also a renowned translator and has translated works from French, English, Catalan and German languages into Basque: the play by Marguerite Yourcenar, Memoirs of Hadrian , [1] Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Homo Faver , by Max Frisch. Laura Mintegi Lakarra is a Basque author, politician and a professor at the University of the Basque Country. Although she was born in Navarre, she moved to Biscay at an early age and has lived there ever since; first in Bilbao and later in Algorta.

Xabier Lete Bergaretxe was a Basque writer, poet, singer and politician. He started to write from an early age and he often published articles in the magazine "Zeruko Argia". In 1965 he created a band of Basque Music with Mikel Laboa, Benito Lertxundi, Joxean Artze, Jose Angel Irigarai and Lourdes Iriondo. The band, which was called "Ez Dok Amairu", disappeared in 1972, but Xabier Lete kept on singing with Lourdes Iriondo, who, by that time, had become his wife.

Elena Odriozola, born in Donostia – San Sebastián is an illustrator of books for children and young adults. For her lasting contribution to children's literature she received the Golden Apple of the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava (2015) for her work illustrating in 2013 Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus.
Yolanda Arrieta Malaxetxeberria is a Basque writer. She completed her teaching studies in the school of teachers of Ezkoriatza, in the speciality of Basque Philosophy. After that, she studied theater at the Antzerti school and finally, she studied Cultural and Social Anthropology, at the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences of San Sebastián. Her greatest activity has always been literature, mainly as a creative writer and also conducting literary workshops and fostering a taste for Literature and Reading.
Joxantonio Ormazabal (1948–2010) was a Basque and Spanish author of primarily children's literature in the Basque language. He also published under the pen name of Joxean.
Patxi Zubizarreta is a Spanish writer who writes in the Basque language (Euskara). He studied Basque philology in Vitoria, where he currently resides. He is an author of children's and youth literature, a specialty in which he has won several prizes, has also been dedicated to translation and literature for adults and has a facet as creator of shows that combine music, image and literature. He was included in the White Ravens catalog and the IBBY Honor Roll.

Miren Agur Meabe Plaza is a Basque poet, prose writer, author of books for children and young adults and a translator. In 2021, she was the first author to win the Spanish Ministry of Culture's National Poetry Award for a work in Basque.
