Jude Herrera is an American actress. She made her onscreen debut starring with Ann-Margret and Kris Kristofferson in a CBS movie for director Peter Werner. [1]
Herrera was born in central New Mexico [2] to her mother, a kindergarten teacher, and her maternal grandparents (grandmother née Salazar). She started formal dance training at a very young age and was introduced to acting by her middle school English teacher that also ran the drama club. While performing in a run of Brighton Beach Memoirs in high school, Herrera decided to pursue acting as a career. She was working as an engineer intern under federal security clearance for the U.S. Dept. of Energy at the time. Herrera graduated from a private performing arts conservatory in Manhattan and also attended the University of New Mexico, majoring in religious studies and minoring in communication. While at UNM, she was inducted into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi.
After graduating from drama school in New York, Herrera toured nationally with a musical theater production of The Barber of Seville, an operetta, earning membership with Actors' Equity. She then moved to Los Angeles and continued to perform in modest theatrical productions. She soon joined an L.A. theater company, Nailing the Kipper Presents, originally from Chicago.
In 1996, Herrera originated the role of Aracely in Bellyfruit, a teen pregnancy-themed stage play which premiered at Los Angeles Theatre Center's mainstage and was directed by Kerri Green. [3] She made her onscreen debut that year, portraying a deaf youth in a CBS movie, Blue Rodeo, starring alongside Ann-Margret and Kris Kristofferson for director Peter Werner. [1] Herrera then played a horse-riding postal carrier in The Postman for director Kevin Costner and guest-starred in the freshman season of Felicity. She has appeared in many independent films, including Race, Tortilla Soup, and the French comedy, Restons Groupés. Herrera played a minor role opposite Jerry Stiller in Stephen Kessler's comedy film, The Independent , and played a romantic leading character opposite James Duval in The Doe Boy. She has also guest-starred in multiple other series.
