Judith C. Toth (born October 21, 1937) is an American retired politician who served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 1975 to 1990.

Early life and education

Toth was born in Rochelle, Illinois in 1937. She attended an American high school in Sasebo, Japan before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University in 1959. She later earned a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in 1989. Toth also took courses at Mexico City College, Georgetown University, the University of the Andes, Montgomery College, and the University of Maryland, College Park. [1]

Career

Prior to serving in the Maryland House of Delegates, Toth worked as an economist and businesswoman. She was elected to the House in 1974 and assumed office in 1975. During her tenure, Toth served as a member of the Environmental Matters Committee and Special Committee on Drug and Alcohol Abuse. In 1988, Toth announced that she would resign from the House at the end of her term, citing boredom with 90-day legislative sessions. [2] [3]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Esther McCready</span> American nurse and teacher (1931–2020)

Esther McCready was a nurse and teacher who desegregated the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1950. The case was filed in 1949 in Baltimore City Court by National Association for the Advancement of Colored People lawyers Charles Hamilton Houston and Donald Gaines Murray. After the court sided with the university, the case went to the Maryland Court of Appeals, where it was argued by Houston, Murray, and Thurgood Marshall. The lower court's ruling was overturned by the Maryland Court of Appeals, and McCready began classes on September 5, 1950. She is in the Maryland Women's Hall of Fame.

Joseph Corey Cluster is a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing the 8th district in Baltimore County. He was appointed to fill the vacancy of former Delegate John Cluster, his father, on September 6, 2016. He married Kourtney Elizabeth Hamel, of Forest Hill, MD, on May 22, 2021.

Helen L. Koss was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates for District 18 and 19, representing Silver Spring, Maryland for sixteen years.

Mary Helen Boergers is an American politician and educator. She was appointed to a seat on the Maryland House of Delegates in 1981, and served until 1990, when she won election to the Maryland Senate. During Boergers's political career, she represented the 17th and 18th districts of Maryland. She was highly involved in Maryland politics, especially concerned with issues of education, drugs and crime, environment, labor, and women's concerns.

Ann Remington Hull served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates for twelve years. She also involved herself in other areas of politics including the Vice President of Maryland's chapter of the League of Women Voters and the executive assistant to Governor Harry Hughes. During her career, Hull was involved on issues of education, civil rights, health and mental health, childcare, and other political and social issues.

John Hanson Briscoe was a Maryland politician and judge. A lifelong resident of St. Mary's County, he served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 1962 to 1979, and served as Speaker of the House from 1973 to 1979. He then served as County Administrative Judge for St. Mary's County Circuit Court, from 1986 until his retirement in 2002.
