Herndon is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia, in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area of the United States. The population was 23,292 at the 2010 census. In 2020, the population was estimated to be 24,532, which makes it the largest of three incorporated towns in the county.

Nancy Hanks Lincoln was the mother of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. When Spencer County was formed in 1818; the Lincoln Homestead lay within its current boundaries. Roche worked in collaboration with visual artists on several public art projects which are installed in the Seattle area. Roche was Literary Arts Director Emeritus for One Reel, an arts producing company, and teaches poetry workshops. Her work has appeared in Exquisite Corpse, Pebble Review, Wandering Hermit, and several anthologies. She conducted poetry workshops for adults and youth in prisons and was a fellow of Black Earth Institute. She was the 2007 Distinguished Writer at Seattle University. Roche was a founding member of Red Sky Poetry Theatre.

Jennifer Barton Boysko is an American politician from the Commonwealth of Virginia. She represents the 33rd district in the Virginia Senate. Previously, she represented the 86th district in the Virginia House of Delegates, which is located in Fairfax and Loudoun counties. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
Rosa L. Dixon Bowser was an American educator. She was the first black teacher hired in Richmond, Virginia. She organized the Virginia Teachers' Reading Circle, which became the Virginia State Teachers Association, the first organization representing black teachers in Virginia, serving as the organization's president from 1890 to 1892. Bowser was president of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union in Virginia, as well as founder and first president of the Richmond Woman's League. She was a correspondent for the magazine The Woman's Era, and wrote essays for national publications. The first branch of the Richmond Public Library to serve African-American patrons was named for Bowser.
