Julia Bracewell OBE (born 26 April 1964) is a British lawyer and fencer. She competed in the women's foil events at the 1992 Summer Olympics. [1]

Biography

Bracewell was born in Essex in 1964. Her family were keen on fencing so she had started by the age of five. Her father, Bert Bracewell, was the British fencing coach for sixteen years. He taught fencing from a stable in Kirkliston. [2] She qualified as a lawyer gaining two prizes in her bar exams whilst working on the trading floors in London. [3] Meanwhile, she became the foil champion at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in 1986 and 1990.[ citation needed ] She competed in the women's foil events at the 1990 European and World championships and the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. [1] Bracewell was appointed an OBE in the 1999 Birthday Honours.

In 2005 she was named as the chair of Sportscotland replacing Alistair Dempster. [2] She was the last permanent chair as after she stood down in February 2008, SportsScotland was merged to create a new body. [4]

In 2017 she was working as a lawyer in the finance field. [3]

Anja Fichtel-Mauritz is a retired German foil fencer. At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, she won in the individual and team competitions, and she won the individual competition of the World Championship in 1986 and 1990. She was winner of the World Championships in 1985, 1989, 1993 as a member of the national German team and second in team competition at the 1992 Summer Olympics. From 1986 until 1996 Fichtel held the title of German champion.

Dame Mary Alison Glen-Haig, was a British fencer who competed in four Olympic games in 1948, 1952, 1956 and 1960. She was born in London, the daughter of William James, a fencer at the 1908 London Olympics. She began competing professionally in 1937 and continued until 1960, during which time she won two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and competed in four Olympics in the women's individual foil events. She was one of the first female members of the International Olympic Committee in 1982 and was created a dame in 1993. After London's successful bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics in 2005, she was active as the host nation's ambassador to the games.
