Julie Oluwatoyin Chidozie Adenuga (born 1988 or 1989) is a British broadcaster, radio host and the creator of Don't Trust The Internet. [3] She was one of the three lead DJs for Beats 1, Apple's 24/7 radio station as part of Apple Music.

Early life

Julie Adenuga was born in Tottenham in the London Borough of Haringey [2] to Nigerian parents. [4] Her father Joseph Adenuga is from the Yoruba ethnic group while her mother Ify Adenuga is from the Igbo ethnic group. [5] [6] Adenuga is the younger sister of Jme and Skepta, who are both London-based Grime artists and record producers, as well as co-founders of the Boy Better Know record label. [7] She also has a younger brother: Jason Adenuga, an animator. [8]

Early career

Adenuga made her debut in the music industry in 2010, when she joined London community radio station Rinse FM and then went on to present the drive time show. [9]

In 2014, she created and hosted a music television show on Channel AKA and Dailymotion called Play It, which serves as a platform for UK rap and grime artists as well as singers and poets. [10] Adenuga recently[ when? ] started a YouTube interview series, featuring artists such UK grime and rap artist Stormzy. [11] As well as this, she hosted Vice Magazine's online offshoot, Noisey's, Grime Karaoke. [12]

As part of the 2015 Apple WWDC keynote, Adenuga was introduced as the London headline host of Beats 1 radio. Beats 1 is the global radio service from Apple Music. [13]

To add to her presenting accolades, Adenuga wrote and presented Skepta's 'Greatness Only' documentary for Noisey. [14] Her talents have been noted and recognised with mentions in Forbes 2017 Europe 30 under 30, in Debrett's 500 List: Music. [15] [16] [17] [18]

In 2020, Adenuga launched Don't Trust the Internet (DTTI), [19] [20] a creative media house that produces shows such as Julie's Top 5. [3] [21]

In early 2021, she began co-hosting MTV’s Catfish UK: The TV Show, the UK version of the U.S. show, alongside Oobah Butler. [22] [23] [24] Adenuga left the show after only one season.

It developed out of the earlier UK dance style UK garage, and draws influences from jungle, dancehall, and hip hop. Boy Better Know, often abbreviated as BBK, is a British grime collective and record label. The collective was founded in North London in 2005 as an independent record label by brothers Jamie and Joseph Adenuga, better known as Jme and Skepta, respectively. The former also serves as a sole owner and director of an associated company, Boy Better Know Limited, incorporated in 2008. All members of the collective use the record label as a means to publish their music, and is digitally distributed by The Orchard, a subsidiary of Sony Music.

Jahmaal Noel Fyffe, better known by his stage name Chip, is a British rapper and songwriter from Tottenham, North London. In the past 14 years he has collaborated with the likes of Skepta, T.I., Meek Mill, Young Adz and many others. In 2009, he released his debut album, I Am Chipmunk, featuring four songs which peaked in the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart, including the chart-topping "Oopsy Daisy". In 2011, Chipmunk released his follow-up album, the American hip hop-influenced Transition. It included the single "Champion" featuring Chris Brown, which peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart.

Joseph Olaitan Adenuga Jr., known professionally as Skepta, is a British grime MC, rapper, record producer and DJ. Alongside his younger brother Jme, he briefly joined Roll Deep before they became founding members of Boy Better Know in 2005. With Boy Better Know, Skepta clashed with fellow MC Devilman for the video release Lord of the Mics 2, in what is remembered as one of the biggest clashes in grime history.

Jamie Adenuga, known professionally as Jme, is a British grime MC, songwriter, record producer and DJ who was born in Hackney, and raised in Tottenham. He was previously part of the grime collective Meridian Crew and later Roll Deep alongside his older brother, Skepta.

The following is a discography of Skepta, a British MC from Tottenham, London. He is a producer and DJ commonly associated with the North London grime scene, including Roll Deep and Boy Better Know. Skepta released his debut album Greatest Hits on 17 September 2007. It was released on the Boy Better Know label. Skepta self-released the first single "Rolex Sweep" in September 2008, which reached number 89 on the UK Singles Chart. He released the album Microphone Champion on 1 June 2009. The single "Too Many Man", with JME, Wiley, Frisco and Shorty, charted at number 79.

Ruff Sqwad are an English grime crew. The group was formed in 2001 in Bow, East London. Various members and affiliates of the crew are considered key figures in the early development of grime music.

Integrity> is the third album by grime rapper Jme, It was released on 4 May 2015 independently on Boy Better Know. Throughout the years leading up to the album, Jme released numerous singles such as "96 Fuckries" and "Work" that were included on the track list of Integrity>. "Calm" was originally credited as Tommy Kruise featuring Jme, and appeared on his October 2014 EP entitled Fête Foreign. The album was commercially successful, entering the UK Albums Chart at number 12. It is one of the 19 records nominated for the IMPALA Album of the Year Award 2015.

<i>Konnichiwa</i> (Skepta album) 2016 studio album by Skepta

Konnichiwa is the fourth studio album by British rapper Skepta. The title is the greeting "hello" in the Japanese language. After numerous delays, it was released on 6 May 2016 by Boy Better Know. Konnichiwa features guest appearances from Jme, Boy Better Know, D Double E, Novelist, Wiley, Chip, Pharrell Williams, ASAP Nast and Young Lord. Konnichiwa was executively produced by Skepta himself, who produced all but three songs on the album. Pharrell also worked on production with Skepta on the album.

Anthony George Harris, better known by his stage name President T, is a British grime artist from North London. President T was born in Birmingham, but moved to Tottenham, North London when he was 3 years old. He is known for his distinct style of delivery, offbeat rhyming patterns, and flow.

Deshane Cornwall, known professionally as Frisco, is a British grime MC, songwriter and record producer who is part of the Boy Better Know (BBK) music label which includes Jme, Skepta, Jammer, among others. He has released three solo albums and a series of mixtapes, guested on tracks by his label mates and established a successful monthly grime event in East London, contributing to the popularity of grime within the UK music scene.

Oobah Butler is an English author and filmmaker. In 2017 he created The Shed at Dulwich, a fictional restaurant which became the top-rated venue in London on TripAdvisor despite having never served a dish. In April 2019, Butler's debut book How to Bullsh*t Your Way To Number 1 was published and became an LA Times bestseller. In 2021, he became co-host of Catfish UK. In 2023 he released his documentary The Great Amazon Heist on Channel 4.
