Julie Dawn Nykiel OAM (born 13 December 1958) is a former Australian women's basketball player. [1]
Nykiel played for the national team between 1979 and 1990, competing at two Olympic Games; 1984 and 1988. [2] Nykiel also represented Australia at three World Championships - 1979, 1983 and 1986. [3]
In the domestic competition, Nykiel was the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) Most Valuable Player in 1984 and 1988. [1] [4] Her single-game record of 53 points (set in 1982) stood for over 20 years and was achieved without the benefit of a three-point line. [1] [5] Nykiel led the WNBL in points scored on 5 occasions; 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985 & 1988. [6] In 2006, Nykiel polled as the 7th greatest Australian female basketball player in the 25-year team. [7] Nykiel is also recognised as one of the leading players in WNBL history. [8]
Nykiel also played netball for Contax. Together with Kathryn Harby, she was a member of the Contax teams that won the 1990 and 1991 South Australia state league titles. [9] [10]
In the 1997 Australia Day Honours Nykiel was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). [11] In 2000 she was awarded the Australian Sports Medal [12] and in 2001 the Centenary Medal. [13]
Nykiel was inducted into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004. [1]
Michele Margaret Timms is an Australian basketball coach and former player. She played five seasons for the Phoenix Mercury of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008 and into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2016.

Shelley O'Donnell is a former Australia netball international. Between 1990 and 1999, O'Donnell made 84 senior appearances for Australia. She was a member of the Australia teams that won gold medals at the 1991, 1995 and 1999 World Netball Championships, the 1993 World Games and the 1998 Commonwealth Games. During the Esso/Mobil Superleague era, O'Donnell played for several teams, including the Australian Institute of Sport and Contax. Between 1997 and 2005, O'Donnell played for Melbourne Kestrels in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league. In 1992, she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. In June 2024 Shelley's daughter, Hannah Mundy, was selected in the Australian Diamonds netball squad.
Belinda Snell is an Australian former professional basketball player. She played 10 seasons in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) in addition to the WNBA and Europe.

Jennifer Hazel (Jenny) Whittle is a retired Australian women's basketball player. Whittle was a regular member of the national team for over a decade, from 1994 until 2006. Playing Centre, Whittle was a key contributor to the Opals' success at international events during the 1990s and 2000s, with strong rebounding and defence a feature of her game. Following an outstanding national and WNBL career, Whittle was elected to the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

The Netball South Australia Premier League, also referred to as the Netball SA Premier League is a state netball league, organised by Netball South Australia. On a national level, the league is effectively a third level league, below Suncorp Super Netball and the Australian Netball League. Between 2008 and 2014, when sponsored by Subway the league was known as the Subway Cup. Between 2015 and 2017, when it was sponsored by Nine News, it was known as the Nine News Netball Cup. Previous sponsors include Dairy Farmers and Farmers Union. During the 2010s the league has been dominated by two clubs, Contax and Matrics, who between them have won every Premier Division grand final since 2010.
Michelle den Dekker, also known as Michelle Fielke, is an Australian netballer from South Australia. den Dekker represented Australia in 84 tests between 1988 and 1995, including a record 71 as captain. She received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 1992 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to sport.
Jenny Borlase, also known as Jenny Kennett, is a former Australia netball international. Between 1989 and 1999 she made 70 senior appearances for Australia. She was a member of the Australia teams that won gold medals at the 1991, 1995 and 1999 World Netball Championships, the 1993 World Games and the 1998 Commonwealth Games. At club level, Borlase played for Garville in both the South Australia state league and the Mobil Superleague and for Adelaide Ravens and Melbourne Kestrels in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league. She also represented South Australia. Borlase was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1992. After retiring as a player, Borlase has remained involved in netball as both an administrator and coach.
Contax Netball Club are an Australian netball team based in Adelaide, South Australia. Their senior team currently plays in the Netball South Australia Premier League. Between 1989 and 1996, Contax represented Netball South Australia in the Esso/Mobil Superleague. They were premiers in 1994. They were originally known as Contax Basketball Club, when netball was known as women's basketball. During the Esso/Mobil Superleague era, they were also referred to as Adelaide Contax. Between 1995 and 2012, when the club was sponsored by ETSA, and then ETSA Utilities, they were known as ETSA Contax.
The Mobil Superleague, originally known as the Esso Superleague, was the top level national Australian netball league between 1985 and 1996. The league was Australia's first national netball league. It was organized by the All Australia Netball Association and featured the state league champions from New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia plus a team from the Australian Institute of Sport. Between 1990 and 1996, the winners of the league were also awarded the Prime Minister's Cup and this is sometimes used as an alternative name for the competition. Its main sponsors were Esso and Mobil. In 1997 it was replaced by the Commonwealth Bank Trophy.
Lorraine May Landon is an Australian basketball administrator and former player and coach. She was introduced to the game of basketball through the Bankstown Bruins and represented the New South Wales team between 1968 and 1975. Landon was general manager of the Bankstown Association and the Bankstown Basketball Stadium's manager and was the volunteer tea manager of the Australia women's national basketball team. She was subsequently appointed manager of the National Basketball League's (NBL) Sydney Kings and the Women's National Basketball League's (WNBL) Sydney Uni Flames and guided both the Australia men's national wheelchair basketball team and the Australia women's national wheelchair basketball team to Paralympic success. Landon is an inductee of the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame and received honours such as the FIBA Order of Merit and the Australian Sports Medal.
