The Julien Dubuque International Film festival (JDIFF) is an annual film festival held in Dubuque, Iowa, United States for four days in April. [1] The festival is named after Julien Dubuque, a French-Canadian explorer who founded the city of Dubuque. The festival was ranked in 2022 as one of the top 50 film festivals worth the submission fee by moviemaker magazine. In 2013, the magazine had listed it as one of the "25 Coolest Film Festivals". History

The first ever Julien Dubuque International Film Festival was held on April 20, 2012, in downtown Dubuque. The festival opened with the film “Country School”. The festival's executive director Susan Gorrell told Variety that "I truly believe JDIFF is the festival for the independent. [2] Since the inaugural festival, it has been named one of the “25 coolest film festivals in the world” by MovieMaker magazine. [3] It is also rated one of the top 100 best rated festivals on Filmfreeway. [4] The festival is held alongside the Mississippi River, with venues being all walking distance apart. [2] The festival receives over 1500 submissions and selects around 120 yearly. In 2022, the festival screened 126 features from more than 50 countries. [5] The festival is known to offer travel and accommodations for the award nominated films. [6]

Merry Xmas is a 2015 American short film directed by Boman Modine and produced by Cinco Dedos Peliculas LLC. The comedic film had its world premiere at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. In June, the short won the Best "Pilot" Award at the 2015 New Media Film Festival in Los Angeles. During Michael Moore's Traverse City Film Festival, the film screened before a work-in-progress cut of Jen Senko's political documentary, The Brainwashing of My Dad, also produced by Matthew Modine and Adam Rackoff. On August 1, 2015, director Boman Modine and co-producer Adam Rackoff were invited to participate in the "After the Credits" interview series where they discussed the process of casting, shooting, and directing Merry Xmas. On December 11, 2015, it was announced that Merry Xmas closed a deal with Shorts International, the parent company of ShortsHD, to release the film on a variety of digital EST platforms including iTunes Movies, Google Play, Amazon Video, and Verizon. During Christmas week, Merry Xmas was featured on the iTunes Short Films page and landed in the top ten sales chart. Of the top ten films, Merry Xmas was the only live-action film and the only short not produced by Disney or DreamWorks.
