KDB Syafaat (19) is the third ship of the Itjihad-class patrol boats. The vessel is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
A total of four Ijtihad-class fast patrol boats have been commissioned into service with the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), where two of the ships began operating since March 2010 followed by another two on 28 August 2010. [1] [2]
Two Ijtihad-class fast patrol boats arrived in Brunei Darussalam on 27 August 2010. The boats, given the prefix Kapal Diraja Brunei (KDB) Syafaat and Afiat were commissioned at the RBN Base in Muara, Brunei. They are part of the project between the government of Brunei Darussalam and Lürssen Werft.
The commissioning ceremony of both vessels was officiated by Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF). Like previous fast patrol boats, Syafaat and Afiat were produced in Germany and completed sea trials. Sister ships Ijtihad and Berkat began operations on 15 March 2010.[ citation needed ]
Syafaat was built by Lürssen Werft company in Germany around 2009. She is part of the second batch delivered from Germany to Brunei. Syafaat and Afiat commissioned together on 27 August 2010 at Muara Naval Base. All three of her sister ships work in the patrol craft role. [3]
Syafaat is commanded by Commander Mohammad Zouhdy bin Haji Abdul Razak. [4]
The Royal Brunei Navy and Republic of Singapore Navy held Exercise Pelican from 10 to 13 July 2011 which consisted of Syafaat, Ijtihad and RSS Stalwart. [5]
Syafaat, Afiat, KRI Barakuda and KRI Lemadang participated in the exercise which is held by the Royal Brunei Navy and Royal Malaysian Navy from 19 to 23 March 2012. [6]
Exercise Penguin was held jointly by the Royal Brunei Navy and Royal Australian Navy. The exercise consisted of ships HMAS Armidale, Syafaat and Daruttaqwa.[ citation needed ]
An exercise was held from 21 to 28 January 2016 by the Royal Brunei Navy which consisted of Syafaat and Darulehsan. [7]
Syafaat, Darulaman, and the American USNS Millinocket and USS Montgomery conducted "Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training" (CARAT) to strengthen the relations between Brunei Darussalam and the United States. It took place in the South China Sea on 29 October 2019. [8]
The Royal Brunei Navy, abbrev: RBN is the naval defence force of Brunei Darussalam. It is a small but relatively well-equipped military force whose main responsibility is to conduct search and rescue missions, and to deter and defend the Brunei waters against attack mounted by seaborne forces.
The Darussalam-class offshore patrol vessel is a class of four offshore patrol vessels in Brunei Darussalam, constructed for the Royal Brunei Navy. They are the largest and most capable ships of the Royal Brunei Navy, and often participate in international naval exercises. The lead ship in the class is KDB Darussalam (06).
KDB Pejuang (P-03) / KRIBadau (841) is the second ship of Waspada class built up in the late 1970s, one of three ordered in Singapore. She was launched on 1978, and was in service with the Royal Brunei Navy until 2011, when she was sold to the Indonesian Navy.She is currently active in Indonesia service as KRI Badau.
KDB Darussalam (06) is the lead ship of her class of offshore patrol vessels in the sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. The vessel is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy.
The Ijtihad class consists of four fast patrol boats built by Lürssen Werft in Germany, and delivered to Brunei Darussalam in 2009. They patrol the coast of Brunei, and sometimes participate in joint naval exercises. The lead ship in the class is KDB Ijtihad (17).
KDB Darulehsan (07) is the second ship of the Darussalam class offshore patrol vessels in the sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. The vessel is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
KDB Darulaman (08) is the third ship of the Darussalam-class offshore patrol vessels in the sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. The vessel is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
KDB Daruttaqwa (09) is the fourth and final ship of the Darussalam-class offshore patrol vessels in the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. The vessel is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
KDB Mustaed (21) is the only ship of its kind in the Royal Brunei Navy. The vessel, a fast interceptor boat, is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy.
KDB Seteria (P-04) is the third ship of Waspada-class built up in the late 1970s, one of three ordered in Singapore. She was launched on 1978, and is still in active service with the Royal Brunei Navy.
KDB Waspada (P-02) / KRI Salawaku (842) is the second ship of Waspada class built up in the late 1970s, one of three ordered in Singapore. She was launched in 1977, and was in service with the Royal Brunei Navy until 2011, when she was sold to the Indonesian Navy. She is currently active in Indonesia service as KRI Salawaku.
KDB Ijtihad (17) is the lead ship of the Ijtihad-class patrol boats. The vessel is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
KDB Berkat (18) is the second ship of the Ijtihad-class patrol boats. The vessel is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
KDB Afiat (20) is the fourth and last ship of the Itjihad-class patrol boats. The vessel is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
Muara Naval Base is a naval base which serves as the headquarters and main operating base for the Royal Brunei Navy. It is situated approximately 4 kilometres from Muara Town, Brunei-Muara District, in the sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. The naval base is located near the mouth of the Brunei River, which flows into the Brunei Bay.
