KMG International N.V. (formerly known as The Rompetrol Group N.V.) is an international oil company with operations in 15 countries throughout Europe, Central Asia and North Africa. The group is active primarily in refining, marketing and trading, with additional operations in exploration and production, and other oil industry services such as drilling, EPCM, and transportation.

KMG International owns the largest and most modern refinery in Romania and the Black Sea region – Petromidia Navodari – which boasts a processing capacity of over five million tons per year.

The company's retail network that operates under the "Rompetrol" brand incorporates over 1000 fuel distribution points in Romania, Georgia, Bulgaria and Moldova.

As of 2010, the group is entirely owned by NC KazMunayGas JSC, the national petroleum company of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in turn controlled by the NWF Samruk Kazyna JSC.

The company employs over 7100 people worldwide, of which around 6,000 in Romania.

Starting 2014, KMG International implemented a new strategy to consolidate and develop the activities and operations of the group in Romania and South-Eastern Europe.

Rompetrol Romanian oil and gas company

Rompetrol is a crude oil development, producer, and refiner based in Romania. It also markets and distributes refined petroleum products through its chain of gasoline and diesel fuel stations. Established as a state-owned company in 1974, it was privatized in 1993 and became a subsidiary of KMG International in 2007. It has operations in 12 countries, where it is known as The Rompetrol Group N.V.

PetroKazakhstan is a Canadian oil company, based in Calgary, Alberta, that has all of its business focused on Kazakhstan where it had some 550 million barrels (87,000,000 m3) of oil and 25 billion cubic feet (710,000,000 m3) of natural gas reserves in the Turgai basin region. These are the second largest Kazakhstani proven reserves after ChevronTexaco's TengizChevroil. Estimated production is 165,000 barrels (26,200 m3) of oil per day. In 2005, PetroKazakhstan was acquired by China National Petroleum Corporation and then in 2006 transferred to PetroChina.

OMV Petrom S.A. is a Romanian integrated oil company, controlled by Austria's OMV. It is one of the largest corporations in Romania and the largest oil and gas producer in Southeast Europe. Since 2004 it is a subsidiary of OMV.

MOL (company)

MOL Plc., also commonly known as MOL Group, is a Hungarian multinational oil and gas company headquartered in Budapest, Hungary. Members of MOL Group include among others the Croatian and Slovak formerly state-owned oil and gas companies, INA and Slovnaft. MOL is Hungary's most profitable enterprise, with net profits of $770 million in 2019. The company is also the third most valuable company in Central and Eastern Europe and placed 402 on the Fortune Global 500 list of the world's largest companies in 2013 with a revenue equal to one fifth of Hungary's GDP at the time.

KazMunayGas State-owned oil and gas company of Kazakhstan

KazMunayGas (KMG) is the state-owned oil and gas company of Kazakhstan. It was founded in 2002 by merging CJSC Kazakhoil and CJSC Oil&Gas Transportation.

The Kazakhstan–China oil pipeline is China's first direct oil import pipeline allowing oil import from Central Asia. It runs from Kazakhstan's Caspian shore to Xinjiang in China. The pipeline is owned by the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and the Kazakh oil company KazMunayGas.

Naftna Industrija Srbije is a Serbian multinational oil and gas company with headquarters in NIS building, Novi Sad, Serbia. NIS is one of the most profitable companies in Serbia and one of the largest domestic exporters. It employs around 11,000 people in Serbia and the region. As of May 2022, Gazprom Neft is the largest shareholder with 50% of NIS shares, followed by 29.87% owned by the Government of Serbia, 5% owned by Gazprom and rest by minority shareholders.

Dan Costache ("Dinu") Patriciu was a Romanian billionaire businessman and politician. At the time of his death, Patriciu was the richest man in Romania. His wealth was based on the Rompetrol company, which he took over from the Romanian state and later sold to Kazakhstan's state-owned KazMunayGas.

Petrochemical industry in Romania

The territory of present-day Romania started producing oil in 1857; oil facilities became an important strategic military target in 1916 during World War I. The Kingdom of Romania was the largest producer of oil in Europe during World War II, and the oil extracted from Romania was essential for Axis military operations. Allied bombers attacked the Romanian petrochemical industry near Ploieşti heavily before the Soviet Red Army occupied the oilfields in August 1944. After the war, significant reconstruction and expansion took place under the communist regime. Since 1989, most of the industry has been privatized.

Timur Kulibayev Kazakh oligarch (born 1966)

Timur Askaruly Kulibayev is a Kazakh business oligarch and son-in-law of former Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev. Kulibayev has held several positions in important state-owned enterprises that manage Kazakhstan's natural resources, and has immense influence over the country's hydrocarbon industry. He is the former Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund and a member of the Board of Directors of the Gazprom company. KazMunayGas Exploration Production JSC is a KazMunayGas-majority-owned oil and gas company operating in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Baku–Batumi pipeline is the name given to several pipelines and pipeline projects to transport kerosene and crude oil from the Caspian region to the Georgian Batumi oil terminal at the Black Sea. When first constructed in 1906, it was the world's longest kerosene pipeline.

Petromidia Refinery Oil refinery in Năvodari, Constanța County

Petromidia Refinery is the largest Romanian oil refinery and one of the largest in Eastern Europe, located in Năvodari, Constanța County. It has an annual processing capacity of 4.8 million tonnes/year or 100,000 bbl/d (16,000 m3/d). The refinery is supplied with oil through an oil terminal located in the Port of Midia that could accommodate ships up to 24,000 DWT or by a pipeline of 40 km (25 mi) which had a terminus in the Port of Constanța.

IPIP SA

S.C. IPIP S.A. the Engineering and Design Institute for Oil Refineries and Petrochemical Plants is a Romanian company which was established in 1950, at Ploiești, as a milestone in the development of the petroleum, hydrocarbon processing and petrochemical industries as well as of their related fields, in Romania.

Midia Oil Terminal is an oil import-export terminal located 8.6 km (5.3 mi) offshore the Port of Midia in Constanța County, Romania. It is one of the biggest oil terminals in the Black Sea that serves as a local hub for crude oil deliveries to the Romanian market. The terminal which started operations in 2008 belongs to the Rompetrol oil company which is owned by Kazakhstans national oil company KazMunayGas. The overall capacity of the import-export terminal is approximately 170 million barrels per annum of oil but used capacity is around 30 million barrels per annum. Tanker loading capacity is suitable for Suezmax tankers up to 160,000 DWT. The terminal serves as a supplier for the nearby Petromidia Refinery also owned by Rompetrol.

Dmitriy Mihailovich Grigoriyev is a Russian businessman. Grigoriyev is the former Chief Financial Officer of The Rompetrol Group, a Romanian oil company, that operates in many countries around the world.
