As a child, Kamaru played the guitar and sang in a choir. [1] He first discovered electronic music in high school, after finding a copy of FL Studio on the school's computers. [1]
Kamaru is known for being prolific; [2] [3] he published almost twenty releases on Bandcamp between 2017 and 2021. [3]
Kamaru was part of an Ableton Live ad in 2019, in which he recorded field recordings from a broken piano. [4] His 2019 extended play Erased used piano, field recordings, and synthesized drums. [3] In 2020, Kamaru released the albums Saal, Peel, Opaquer and Jar. [4] [3] Released on Editions Mego, Peel was created in 48 hours and blended organic and synthetic textures. [3] In 2022, Kamaru toured with Big Thief. [5] The same year, he released a collaborative album, Limen, with Aho Ssan. [5] In 2023, Pitchfork described Kamaru as a "widely referenced figure in contemporary electronic music". [2]
In 2023, he released Dissolution Grip , which represented a sonic shift away from field recordings. [6] The album received critical acclaim from the publications Loud and Quiet and Pitchfork . [2] [6]
His grandfather, also named Joseph Kamaru, was a well-known benga musician. [7] After his death in 2018, the younger Kamaru reissued some of his albums, attempting to introduce a new audience to his music. [1] [3]
Kamaru was born in Nairobi, Kenya. [3] He later moved to Berlin, Germany, in October 2020. [3] [1] He moved to begin attending Universität der Künste for a Master's program of Sound Studies and Sonic Arts. [1]
Sonic Youth was an American rock band based in New York City and formed in 1981. Founding members Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo remained together for the entire history of the band, while Steve Shelley (drums) followed a series of short-term drummers in 1985, rounding out the core line-up. Jim O'Rourke was also a member of the band from 1999 to 2005, and Mark Ibold was a member from 2006 to 2011.

Rick White is a Canadian musician and singer-songwriter. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, he was a member of indie bands Eric's Trip, Elevator, Perplexus, and The Unintended. White first played music, in a band called "Bloodstain", in 1984, before starting his own band "in 1986", called "T.C.I.B", which later transitioned into the band name, "The Underdogs", which lasted from the summer of 1987, until June 1988. By the summer of 1989, The Underdogs had broken up, and Rick had joined another band, "The Forest", which lasted from the 1989, until June 1990, with a one-off recording session happening in December, 1990. Prior to Eric's Trip, and while in Eric's Trip, White also recorded two solo-produced albums, one in March 1990, and another in August 1991, but both were not released until 2022. Known for lo-fi recording, he has also recorded and produced music for The Sadies, Orange Glass, Joel Plaskett, One Hundred Dollars, Dog Day, HotKid and his former Eric's Trip bandmate Julie Doiron.

Gossip is an American indie rock band formed in Searcy, Arkansas. For most of their career, the band has consisted of singer Beth Ditto, multi-instrumentalist Nathan "Brace Paine" Howdeshell, and drummer Hannah Blilie. After releasing several recordings, the band broke through with their 2006 studio album, Standing in the Way of Control. A follow-up, Music for Men, was released in 2009. The band played a mix of post-punk revival, indie rock, and dance-rock. Their fifth album, A Joyful Noise, was released in May 2012. They disbanded in 2016 but reformed to embark on an anniversary tour for Music for Men in 2019 and released the album Real Power in 2024.
Loscil is the electronic/ambient music project of Scott Morgan from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Morgan launched the project in Vancouver in 1998 while a member of the multimedia collective Multiplex, which curated audiovisual events at an underground cinema called The Blinding Light. The name Loscil is taken from the "looping oscillator" function (loscil) in Csound.

Selected Ambient Works 85–92 is the debut studio album by the British musician Richard D. James under the moniker Aphex Twin. It was released on 9 November 1992 through Apollo Records, a subsidiary of the Belgian label R&S Records. The album consists of ambient techno tracks recorded onto cassette reputedly dating as far back as 1985, when James was 13-14 years old.
