KOA II Part 1 (pronounced King of Amapiano 2 Part 1) is the fourth studio album by South African DJ Kabza De Small, released on June 16, 2022, through Piano Hub. The album features guest appearances from DJ Maphorisa, Ami Faku, Msaki, Young Stunna, Kwesta, Bob Mabena, Mhaw Keys and more.

Background

In an interview with Spotify, Motha revealed that he worked on 81 songs before coming to a final 18 tracks to be included on his fourth album. [1]

At GQ Magazine, the album received scored 10/10 rating. [2]

Commercial Performance

On May 30, 2022, album's pre-add were made available and debuted number 11 on iTunes top 100 chart. [3] [4]

Accolades

The album was nominated for Album of the Year at 2022 Afrimma and scored three nominations at the 2nd Annual South African Amapiano Music Awards Best Amapiano Album/EP, Best Amapiano Produced Song, and Song of the Year. KOA II Part 1 is nominated for Best Dance Album at South African Dance Music Awards.

Release and singles

The albums standard edition was released on June 16, 2022. [7] [8]

"Khusela" featuring Msaki was released on May 31, 2021, as album's lead single. The song debuted number 1 on Apple Music charts. [4]

The other singles "Bathini" featuring Young Stunna and Artwork Sounds, and "Isoka" featuring Nkosazana Daughter and Murumba Pitch "Ingabe", "Eningi" featuring Njelic, Simmy and Mhaw Keys were also released on May 31, 2021. [7] [9]

Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, known by her stage name Makhadzi, is a South African singer. Born and raised in Ha-Mashamba, Limpopo, her career began at the age of 12 as dancer prior pursuing a music career as a singer, while she was attending school she signed a record deal with Rita Dee Entertainment and released Muhwalo Uya Ndemela in 2015. Amanda Faku is a South African singer, performer and songwriter. Born and raised in the township of eZinyoka, Port Elizabeth, developed musical interest at the age of 6 and participated on church choirs. Faku rose to fame as a contestant on The Voice SA season 2 in 2017, prior getting recognition in the music industry.

Sanele Tresure Sithole, known professionally as Sun-El Musician, is a South African disc jockey, music producer, and songwriter. Asanda Lusaseni Mvana known professionally as Msaki, is a South African composer, singer, and songwriter. Born and grew up in East London, during her childhood she was involved in musical activities. Her career in music began in 2008, at the age of 20, when she was a member of alternative rock band while attending college.

Lethabo Sebetso, professionally known as Focalistic, is a South African rapper. He rose to prominence after his single "Ke Star", reached number 16 on Billboard Top Triller Global charts. Born and raised in Pretoria, Sebetso was a footballer prior pursuing a music career as a rapper, released his debut studio album Sgubhu Ses Excellent (2020).

"Ke Star" is a single by South African rapper Focalistic. It was released by 18 Area Holdings on April 25, 2020 as lead single from his Extended Play Blecke (2020). It was written by Focalistic and produced by Vigro Deep.

Sandile Fortune Msimango, popularly known by his stage name Young Stunna is a South African singer. He is known for his hit singles "Bopha" and "Adiwele". He has also extensively worked with record producers DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small.

"Imithandazo" is an amapiano song by Kabza de Small and Mthunzi from their collaborative studio album Isimo (2023). It was released on 27 October 2023 by Piano Hub under exclusive license from Sony Music Entertainment Africa, it features guest appearances from DJ Maphorisa, Sizwe Alakine, Young Stunna, and Umthakathi Kush with production handled by Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa, collectively known as Scorpion Kings.
