K G Ratheesh (born 18 January 1983) [1] is an Indian cinematographer and film producer who works in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, and Hindi cinema. He is best known for his work on the 3D film Kamasutra 3D, [2] which was longlisted for the 86th Academy Awards, and the off-road racing film Muddy (2021). He is the founder of the production house White Lamp Pictures.

Early Life and Background

Born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He is the son of Krishnan Nair, a professional photographer, and Girija Kumari. He completed his schooling at Janardhanapuram Higher Secondary School and pursued a BA in English at Christian College, Kattakada. He also studied Civil Engineering at Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering in Thiruvananthapuram. [1]

Career

Ratheesh began his cinematic journey in 2000 as an assistant cinematographer. He made his debut as an independent cinematographer with the Kannada film Aakramana (2014), which was noted for its 3D execution. [1]

International Recognition

His most significant international work is Kamasutra 3D , a Hollywood project where he served as the Director of Photography. The film gained global attention when it was longlisted for nominations in two categories (Best Motion Picture and Best Original Song) at the 86th Academy Awards .

Technical Innovation

Ratheesh is often cited as a specialist in technically demanding shoots. He handled the cinematography for Muddy (2021), [3] [4] billed as India's first off-road racing film, [5] which required capturing high-speed action in difficult terrains across multiple languages.

Production

Under his production house, White Lamp Pictures, [6] Ratheesh has expanded into film production and distribution. His production credits include the Tamil films Oru Nodi [7] and the upcoming Jenma Natchathiram .
