Kahnu Charan Lenka also spelt Kanu is an Indian politician. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha,upper house of the Parliament of India from Odisha. He was the Minister for State for Railways and Union Minister of State for Agriculture Under Narasimha Rao. He was earlier elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly and an Odisha state minister. The Rajya Sabha,also known as the Council of States,is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of India. As of 2023,it has a maximum membership of 250,of which 238 are elected by the legislatures of the states and union territories using single transferable votes through open ballots,while the president can appoint 12 members for their contributions to art,literature,science,and social service. The total allowed capacity is 250 according to article 80 of the Indian Constitution. The current potential seating capacity of the Rajya Sabha is 245,after the Jammu and Kashmir (Reorganisation) Act. The maximum seats of 250 members can be filled up at the discretion and requirements of the house of Rajya Sabha.

Kalpataru Das was an Indian politician from the Odisha state. He belonged to the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party. He won the Odisha Legislative Assembly election,1995 from Dharmasala constituency of Jajpur district,which he held consecutively from 1995-2014. On 2 August 2012,he was given the portfolio of Panchayati Raj Minister. From 3 April 2014,he was an MP of Rajya Sabha. In 2013,he was State Panchayati Raj Minister and Parliamentary Affairs Minister. He died on 25 July 2015,aged 67. He was cremated on Sunday evening at Bhotaka in Tehsil Kuakhia,Jajpur district,from where he belonged,by his eldest son BJD MLA Pranab Balabantaray.

In May 2017,he won a bypoll to the Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha constituency which was vacated by Bishnu Charan Das when he was appointed chairman of Odisha State Planning Board. Pratap Deb filed a nomination and won the seat uncontested on 18 May 2017. He will complete the remainder of his term until 1 July 2022.
