The Kaipuri people is the descendant of Biak people who migrated from Biak Island to Kurudu island, and they occupy the south of the island. [1] Today, the Kaipuri and Kurudu are united and become known as the Miobo people. [2]

History

Laurens Tanamal witnessed various events and things that happened on the island of Kurudu in the 1900s. In his autobiography it is written:

Kurudu Island is located between Yapen and Waropen Beach. There are two viable villages, namely Kurudu in the north and Kaipuri in the south. The natives live in the first mentioned village; they come from the island itself and have mixed with people from Yapen and Waropen. Kaipuri residents are mostly from Biak. Only the natives know pottery and practice good agriculture, while the Biak exchange their produce for seafood. The character of the two groups is also very different. While the Kurudu people were peaceful, discord always arose among the Kaipuri people; they are true warriors. Even though Kaipuri village is small, killing each other is common. I myself have often experienced the Kurudu people being harassed by them. In 1936, there was still a massive war between the two villages. Luckily I heard about it in time and did. Standing between the two sides, I try to avoid the worst. The parties then managed to reconcile, but that's only temporary. The contrast between the two is always sharp and very detrimental. [1] :1

Even though the Kaipuri and Kurudu tribes live on one island, there are still conflicts between themselves which are triggered by many things within the village.. The life of the Kurudu-Kaipuri people has actually been documented by many foreigners for a long time. This island became a stopover for many explorers and even became a trading base in the past. Several Dutch records mention the island in Dutch as Eiland Koeroedoe, so that this island was very well known and familiar to travelers at that time. Kurudu Island is known as an island that is difficult to conquer, manbri-manbri they are very dangerous, ferocious, and have many tactics. So that in the waters of Cenderawasih Bay, they are mighty people who should be reckoned with and wary of by neighboring tribes. [1]
