Kalyani Ghosh (born 1946) is a Bangladeshi singer. She was an artist of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Bangladesh Liberation War. She was awarded the Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2024 for her special contribution to music. [1] [2] [3]
Kalyani was born in 1946 into a musical family in the present-day Raozan Upazila of Chittagong. Her father's name was Manomohan Chowdhury and her mother's name was Lilabati Chowdhury.Of the couple's eight children, six of them, including her, were artists of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra: Uma Khan, Probal Chowdhury, Swapon Chowdhury, Devi Chowdhury, and Purnima Das. Kalyani started learning music from her mother at the age of five. [4] She was a student of the first batch of the Bengali department of Chittagong University. [4]
In 1971, during the Bangladesh Liberation War, she was teaching at the prestigious St. Placid's School in Chittagong. After the independence of Bangladesh, she was listed as a regular artist on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar. She later retired in 2005 as the Deputy Director of Bangla Academy. [5]
She was awarded the Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2024. Recipient of the 'Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award' and the 'Shahid Smriti Sangskritik Parishad Award'. She has performed in many countries around the world, including India, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Kalyani has released several albums, including 'Swadhinotar Gaan' and 'Amar Sonar Bangla'.
Bangladesh Betar, or BB is the state-owned radio broadcaster of Bangladesh, initially established as the Dhaka station of All India Radio in 1939. It was later made part of Radio Pakistan. After the independence of the country in 1971, Radio Pakistan ceased transmissions there and the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra was renamed to Bangladesh Betar, which took full control of all radio stations in the country at the time.
Fakir Alamgir was a Bangladeshi folk and pop singer. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1999 by the Government of Bangladesh.

Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra was the radio broadcasting centre of Bengali nationalist forces during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. The station played an important role in the liberation struggle, broadcasting the Declaration of Independence and increasing the morale of Bangladeshis during the brutal genocide in 1971. During this time, radio was the only media able to reach the far ends of Bangladesh. The station ran a liberation campaign throughout the liberation war.
The Proclamation of Bangladeshi Independence, refers to the declaration of independence of Bangladesh on 26 March 1971, at the onset of the Bangladesh Liberation War by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; the following day Major Ziaur Rahman declared independence on behalf of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra radio station in Kalurghat, Chattogram. On 10 April, the Provisional Government of Bangladesh issued a proclamation on the basis of the previous declaration and established an interim constitution for the independence movement.

He earned the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Lyricist a record seven times for the films Tit for Tat (1992), Ajante (1996), Churiwala (2001), Lal Dariya (2002), Kokhono Megh Kokhono Brishti (2003), Meyeti Ekhon Kothay Jabe (2016) and Joiboti Konyar Mon (2021). He worked as a lyricist in the "Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra". He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2002 and Independence Day Award in 2021 by the government of Bangladesh. He has penned lyrics for 267 films.
Rathindranath Roy is a Bangladeshi musician. He was a performer in Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. Roy sang Bhawaiya songs from the Rangpur area. He is also a playback singer. He has won awards like BACHSHASH Award in 1979 and 1981, and Ekushey Padak in 1994.
Shefali Ghosh was a Bangladeshi music artist. She sang Chittagong's regional songs. She was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2008.

Mihir Kumar Nandi was a Bangladeshi Rabindra Sangeet singer and classical vocalist. He was a singer at the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the 1971 Liberation War. In 2015, he was awarded Shilpakala Padak in the vocal music category by the Government of Bangladesh.
Tapan Mahmud is a Bangladeshi Rabindra Sangeet singer. He received Rabindra Padak from Bangla Academy in 2016.
Indra Mohan Rajbongshi was a Bangladeshi folk singer. He was the recipient of 2018 Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh.

He is one of the performers of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 and best known for the song "Mora Ekti Phulke Bachabo Bole Juddho Kori". He was awarded an Ekushey Padak, Bangladesh's second highest civilian award, in 2005 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution in music.
Dalia Nausheen is a Bangladeshi Nazrul Sangeet singer. She is one of the artists who participated in the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. In recognition of her contribution to music, the government of Bangladesh awarded her the country's second highest civilian award Ekushey Padak in 2020.
