Sa'adatu Kande Balarabe was a Nigerian politician from Kano State. She was among a trio of women elected into the Nigerian House of Representatives in 1983. She has served in various positions in her state including the director of Kano State's women's commission. [1]

Life

Balarabe was born in Sierra Leone where her father was engaged in business. She attended Freetown Girls School and the Royal School for Nursing in London. In 1982, during the Second Republic, Kande became a leader of PRP's women wing in Kano. Prior to entering politics, she was a nurse in a state hospital, [2] named the Murtala Mohammed Hospital in Kano. However, in 1982, she resigned to spend most of her time in politics. [3] In 1983, she contested and won a seat into the Nigerian House of Representatives, however, the second republic was truncated. In 1987, she became a member of the Constituent Assembly, representing a district in her state and was later appointed Director of the Women Commission of Kano State.

Rabiu Kwankwaso Nigerian politician

Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso, FNSE, FNIQS is a Nigerian politician who was the Governor of Kano State from 1999 to 2003 and 2011 to 2015. After he lost his re-election in 2003, he was appointed the first Minister of Defence of the Fourth Republic with no prior military background from 2003 to 2007. He was later elected to the Senate in 2015, serving one term under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Kano Central Senatorial District.

Aminu Kano

Aminu Kano was a Muslim politician from Nigeria born at Sudawa, Gwale Local Government and resided at Gwammaja, Dala Local Government. In the 1940s he led a socialist movement in the northern part of the country in opposition to British rule. The Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, and the Aminu Kano College of Islamic Studies all in Kano, are named after him. He was a relative to the father of former Head of State Murtala Mohammed, former Minister of Defense Inuwa Wada and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Aminu Bashir Wali.

Yusuf Maitama Sule was a Nigerian politician, diplomat, and elderly statesman who held the Danmasanin Kano a chieftaincy title. In 1955-1956 he was the chief whip of the Federal House of Representatives. In 1960 he led the Nigerian delegation to the Conference of Independent African States. In 1976, he became the Federal Commissioner of public complaints, a position that made him the nation's pioneer ombudsman. In early 1979, he was the presidential candidate of the National Party of Nigeria but lost to Shehu Shagari. He was appointed Nigeria's representative to the United Nations after the coming of civilian rule in September 1979. While there he was chairman of the United Nations Special Committee against Apartheid.

Isaiah Balat Nigerian politician and businessman

Isaiah Chawai Balat was a Nigerian politician and businessman from southern Kaduna State. He was the Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing for Kaduna South from May 2003 to May 2007 and, a member of the People's Democratic Party. Prior to his election to the Senate, he served as the Minister of State for Works and Housing in the cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo form 1999 to 2000. In May 2010, Balat was appointed the Special Advisor to the President on Special Duties where he served until his demise in 2014.

Rose Okoji Oko was a Nigerian politician and senator. The 1979 Kaduna State gubernatorial election occurred on July 28, 1979. PRP's Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa won election for a first term to become Kaduna State's first executive governor leading by 45.14%, defeating NPN's Lawal Kaita who got 44.42% and the GNPP candidate with 10.44%, in the contest.
