Kathleen Brady Ross (born November 1, 1993) performing as Kathleen since 2020, is an American singer-songwriter originally from Washington State who grew up mainly in Colorado. [1] Originally performing under the name Kate Brady, she recorded a song that had viral success called Sailing Ships [2] . Attention from this track led to her signing with Los Angeles based firm Lyrics House, where she first began to publish and write and produce songs both for herself and other artists. [3]
After attending and graduating from University of Colorado Boulder [4] she entered into the fifth Guitar Center Singer/Songwriter competition, [1] performing her original songs "Best Day" & "Sailing Ships" and was selected as the grand prize winner, earning her a four-song EP and studio time with Grammy Award-winning producer Ariel Rechtshaid. In 2018 she was selected by Hydelic to write and sing on the tracks "Connected (Yours Forever)" and "Always Been But Never Dreamed" for Tetris Effect. [7]
Following that in 2019, she recorded and released a cover of Both Sides, Now as part of the "Turn Her Up" project spear-headed by Pixie Lott & independent record label frtyfve for International Women's Day. [8]
Following these successes, she was signed by Warner Records under the name Kathleen and recorded a number of singles and two EPs, Kathleen I & II, released in 2020. Her cover version of "Pure Imagination" was utilized in a national ad campaign with Marriott Hotels & Resorts. [9] . Rechtshaid assisted with production along with Dan Nigro. [10]
She was credited in 2021 as a background vocalist & performed some vocal arrangements on Olivia Rodrigo's debut album Sour for the tracks Favorite Crime & "Happier". [11]
In 2024, OneBeat, a program built by the The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announced Kathleen as a fellow for their residency and performance program, which in 2024 brought residents of 17 different countries together to collaborate and perform together in order to build cross-cultural bonds between artists of the US and other places around the world.
