Kathleen Carey Hetherington is an American college administrator and the president of Howard Community College (HCC).

Early life and education

Kathleen Carey is a native of Philadelphia. She has five younger siblings. Hetherington earned an Associate in Applied Science from Community College of Philadelphia. [1] She completed a Bachelor of Social Science from Pennsylvania State University. She earned a master of science from Villanova University and a doctor of education from Widener University. [2]

Career

Hetherington was a staff member for 22 years at the Community College of Philadelphia before leaving in 1999. She was the co-owner of an ice cream shop in South Philadelphia. The same year, she became the vice president of student services at HCC. [1] In 2007, Hetherington became the president of HCC. [2]

Personal life

Kathleen Carey met husband, John Hetherington in their college Spanish 101 class. The professor had paired the two to share a textbook. In 2006, she competed in the Marine Corps Marathon. [1]

Holyoke Community College (HCC) is a public community college in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Howard Community College is a community college in Columbia, Maryland. It offers classes for credit in more than 100 programs, non-credit classes, and workforce development programs. In addition to the main campus in Columbia, courses are also held at two satellite campuses.

The Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery was founded in 1856 in Philadelphia and was the second oldest operating school of dentistry in the United States by the time of its closing in 1909. From its faculty came what are today the dental schools of Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania.

Henderson Community College

Henderson Community College (HCC) is a community college in Henderson, Kentucky. It is one of 16 two-year, open-admissions colleges of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). It was established in 1960 under the leadership of the late Dr. Louis C. Alderman, Jr., the first Director of the Northwest Extension of the University of Kentucky. The college became a charter member of the University of Kentucky's Community College System in 1964, changing its name to Henderson Community College. HCC became a member of KCTCS in 1998. Mary Garrett American suffragist

Mary Elizabeth Garrett was an American suffragist and philanthropist. She was the youngest child and only daughter of John W. Garrett, a philanthropist and president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Well known for her "coercive philanthropy", Mary Garrett donated money to start the Johns Hopkins University Medical School in 1893 on the condition that the school would accept female students "on the same terms as men". She founded the Bryn Mawr School, a private college-preparatory school for girls in Baltimore, and generously donated to Bryn Mawr College of Pennsylvania with the requirement that her intimate friend Martha Carey Thomas be the president. Like many other suffragists of the nineteenth century, Garrett chose not to marry; instead, she kept a lifelong working and emotional relationship with Thomas. In her later years, she collaborated with her longtime friends Susan B. Anthony and Anna Howard Shaw to try to secure the right for women to vote in the United States.

Ruth Esther Graves King is an educational psychologist who was the first woman president of the Association of Black Psychologists. Her interest in sports led her to teach physical education. While coaching, she became interested in psychology, gaining a PhD and doctorate in education from Temple University. She has worked for government and community organizations, as well as teaching at Federal City College and Howard University and consulting. She has published two novels, and is married, with two children.

Kathleen C. Weathers is an ecosystem scientist and the G. Evelyn Hutchinson Chair in Ecology at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies. Her expertise focuses on understanding the ecology of air-land-water interactions. Weathers is the current elected President of the Ecological Society of America (2020-2021).
