Kathy Park is an American journalist and news personality working as a correspondent at NBC News in New York City, New York. She was previously a reporter and anchor at KCRA, an NBC affiliate in Sacramento, California. [1]
After graduating from high school, Park attended the University of Maryland and graduated cum laude from the university with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Psychology. She was also a reporter for the university's award-winning Capital News Service during her undergraduate studies.[ citation needed ]
Park began her journalism career as a general assignment reporter for WCYB in Bristol, Virginia in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, covering breaking news in Bristol, Johnson City, and Kingsport until departing in 2008. [ citation needed ]
She also worked as a Meredith-Cronkite fellow at a CBS affiliate in Phoenix, which became one of her opportunities in a local newsroom. Park then moved to WJLA NewsChannel 8, an ABC News affiliate beginning in July 2008. For six years, she would cover many high-profile events, particularly the Washington Navy Yard shooting, 2 of President Barack Obama's inaugurations, and the 2010 blizzard that earned her an Emmy nomination.[ citation needed ]
Park left WJLA-TV in July 2014 and moved to Sacramento, California to work at KCRA as a general assignment reporter and weekend evening anchor. From there, she covered wildfires to riots in response to the Killing of Stephon Clark and the 2018 California elections. [2] [3] [4]
In August 2018, Park left KCRA when her big break came as she landed her role as a news correspondent at NBC News, reporting on Today, MSNBC, and NBC Nightly News, and has been working there since. [5]
Park married her husband Brent in 2021 after being engaged for 2 years.[ citation needed ]
In addition to receiving her Emmy nomination, Park is also a member of the Asian American Journalists Association and volunteers frequently. [6]
