Rotherham United Football Club, nicknamed The Millers, is a professional association football club based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. The team will compete in EFL League One in the 2024–25 season after suffering relegation from EFL Championship in the previous season. The club's colours were initially yellow and black, but changed to red and white around 1930. They have played home matches at the New York Stadium since 2012, having briefly moved to the Don Valley Stadium from their original home at Millmoor in 2008.
Mark John Lynch is an English former professional footballer who played as a right-back. He began his career with Manchester United and spent most of the 2001–02 season on loan with Scottish club St Johnstone, but failed to break into the Manchester United first team on a regular basis. Tait also later managed two of these clubs; Darlington and Hartlepool United. In 2012 he became a scout for Newcastle United.
Laurence Morgan was an English professional footballer, and manager who was active during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. He was born in Rotherham on 5 May 1931, and died in January 2022 at the age of 90.
William Henry Atkinson is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Northern Premier League Premier Division club Mickleover.
Andrew Williams is an English former footballer, who played for 278 league games in an eleven-year professional career in the Football League. He turned out for Coventry City, Rotherham United, Leeds United, Port Vale, Notts County, Huddersfield Town, Hull City and Scarborough. He also played for non-League sides Dudley Town, Solihull Borough, Guiseley, Gainsborough Trinity, and Matlock Town. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the Third Division in 1987–88, and helped Leeds to the Second Division title in 1989–90.
Ian Butler is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League as a left winger for Rotherham United, Hull City, York City and Barnsley. His son, Martin Butler, also played for York City.

Kenneth Waterhouse was a professional footballer who played in the Football League for Preston North End, Rotherham United, Bristol City and Darlington. He was a member of Rotherham's 1961 Football League Cup final team. Waterhouse became manager of Morecambe in 1965 and left in 1969. However just several months later he was back at The Shrimps where he spent another two years.

The 1977–78 season was Port Vale's 66th season of football in the Football League, and their eighth successive season in the Third Division. Finishing in 21st place, they were relegated to the Fourth Division. Roy Sproson was sacked in October after a poor start to the season, though things did not improve under his replacement Bobby Smith, despite Smith spending big money to bring in new players. Smith also left the club at the end of the season.

The season started on 7 August 2015, and concluded on 7 May 2016. The fixtures were announced on 17 June 2015.
