Kennedy Kimwetich (born 1 January 1973) is a retired Kenyan middle distance runner who specialised in the 800 metres. [1] He reached the final of the 1999 World Championships finishing seventh.
He is the Kenyan record holder in the indoor 1000 metres. This is also the current Commonwealth records.[ citation needed ]

Maria de Lurdes Mutola is a retired female track and field athlete from Mozambique who specialised in the 800 metres running event. She is only the fourth female track and field athlete to compete at six Olympic Games. She is a three-time world champion in this event and a one-time Olympic champion.
Middle-distance running events are track races longer than sprints, up to 3000 metres. The standard middle distances are the 800 metres, 1500 metres and mile run, although the 3000 metres may also be classified as a middle-distance event. The 1500 m came about as a result of running 3+3⁄4 laps of a 400 m outdoor track or 7+1⁄2 laps of a 200 m indoor track, which were commonplace in continental Europe in the 20th century.
Wilson Kosgei Kipketer is a Danish former middle distance runner. He is the second fastest of all time over 800 meters, setting the world record and breaking his own record two more times all in 1997. He dominated the 800 m distance for a decade, remaining undefeated for a three-year period and running 8 of the 17 currently all-time fastest times. He won gold medals in three successive editions of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics. Though unable to compete in the 1996 Olympics near the peak of his career, he earned silver in 2000 and bronze in 2004. Kipketer's 800 meters world record stood for almost 13 years. It was surpassed on 22 August 2010, when David Rudisha beat it by 0.02 seconds, running 1:41.09. Rudisha would eventually go on to further lower the 800m world record to the first and only sub one minute 41 second run. Kipketer still currently holds the indoor world record for the 800 metres.
William Kiptarus Tanui is a Kenyan former athlete, winner of 800 m at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
Fermín Cacho Ruiz is a Spanish track and field athlete, winner of the gold medal in the 1500m at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and the silver medal in the 1500m at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

Robertus "Rob" Johannes Druppers is a former Dutch middle distance runner, who won the silver medal in the 800 m event at the 1983 World Championships. He set a Dutch 800 m record at 1:43.56 in Cologne in 1985, and a 1000 m record of 2:15.23 in his home town Utrecht in the same year. Druppers competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics, where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 800 m.
Lidia Chojecka-Leandro is a retired Polish middle- and long-distance runner who mainly competed in the 1500 metres and 3000 metres. She won bronze medals in the 1500 m at the 1997 and 1999 World Indoor Championships, and for the 3000 m at the 2006 World Indoor Championships. Chojecka is a six-time European Indoor Championships medallist in the 1500 m and 3000 m events, earning three golds and three silvers. She took the double at the 2007 European Indoor Championships, becoming the first runner, male or female, to win both events at the same championships. She had been one of the most consistent middle-distance runners in Europe throughout the 1990s, and finished fifth and sixth in back-to-back Olympic 1500 m finals in 2000 and 2004.
Joseph Mwengi Mutua is a Kenyan runner who specializes in the 800 metres.
David Lelei was a Kenyan middle distance runner. who specialized in the 800 and 1500 metres. He was later an athletics official and a political candidate, but died in a vehicle accident in 2010.
Abraham Chepkirwok is an Ugandan middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800 metres. He is the Ugandan record holder in this distance, with 1:43.72 minutes, achieved in July 2008 in Madrid. He is a World Junior Championships bronze medalist from 2006 and Olympic competitor from 2008.
Marcin Przemysław Lewandowski is a Polish retired middle-distance runner. He won the bronze medal in the 1500 metres at the 2019 World Athletics Championships and silver in the same event at the 2018 World Indoor Championships. At the European Athletics Championships, Lewandowski claimed gold in the 800 metres in 2010 and silvers in 2016 and 2018 for the 800 m and 1500 m respectively. He took also five medals at the European Indoor Championships, including three golds between 2015 and 2019, and two silvers in 2011 and 2021.
Boaz Kiplagat Lalang is a Kenyan middle distance runner, who specialises in the 800 metres. His younger brother, Lawi Lalang, ran for the University of Arizona.
Nicholas Wachira is a Kenyan former middle-distance runner who competed mostly in the 800 metres. He represented his country at the 2001 and 2003 World Championships reaching semifinals at both occasions. In addition, he won gold medals at the 1999 World Youth and 2000 World Junior Championships.
Frédérique Quentin is a retired French athlete who specialised in the middle-distance events. She represented her country at the 1996 Summer Olympics, as well as three World Championships, without qualifying to the final.
Peter Wirz is a retired Swiss middle-distance runner who competed primarily in the 1500 metres. He represented his country at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics, as well as two outdoor and one indoor World Championships. In addition, he won a gold medal at the 1984 European Indoor Championships.
Robert Kiplagat Andersen is a retired Kenyan-born middle-distance runner who ran internationally for Denmark. He competed in the 1500 metres at the 1995 World Championships, reaching the semifinals, and the 1997 World Championships, reaching the final.
Saïd Chébili is a French former middle-distance runner who competed primarily in the 1500 metres. He represented his country at two outdoor and one indoor World Championships.
Emmanuel Kipkurui Korir is a Kenyan middle-distance runner. He is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and 2022 World champion in the 800 metres. Korir won the silver medal in the event at the 2018 African Championships in Athletics.
Christian Neunhauserer is a retired Italian middle-distance runner. He represented his country at two consecutive World Indoor Championships.
