Kenneth J. Lawrence (born 1964) is an American astronomer and a discoverer of minor planets. [2]

Contents

Credited by the Minor Planet Center with the discovery of 32 numbered asteroids between 1989 and 1994, he has also co-discovered 152P/Helin-Lawrence, a periodic comet from the Jupiter family. [3] He was also a participant in the Palomar Planet-Crossing Asteroid Survey. [2]

The main-belt asteroid 4969 Lawrence, discovered by Eleanor Helin in 1986, is named in his honor. [2] Naming citation was published on 14 July 1992 ( M.P.C. 20522). [4]

Dennis K. Chesney is an American astronomer and discoverer of minor planets born in Clovis, New Mexico, and credited by the Minor Planet Center with the discovery of 38 numbered minor planets during 1998–2000. As of 2016, his only named discovery is the outer main-belt asteroid 12583 Buckjean, which he named after his parents. It was they who had gavin him a pair of binoculars for Christmas, that ultimately led to his many asteroid discoveries. Naming citation was published on 20 March 2000.

2430 Bruce Helin is a stony Phocaea asteroid and slow rotator from the inner regions of the asteroid belt. It was discovered by American astronomers Eleanor Helin and Eugene Shoemaker at the U.S. Palomar Observatory in California, on 8 November 1977. It was later named after Bruce Helin, son of the first discoverer. The S-type asteroid (Sl) has an exceptionally long rotation period of 128 hours and measures approximately 12 kilometers in diameter.

4222 Nancita (prov. designation: 1988 EK1) is a bright background asteroid and upcoming Mars-crosser on an eccentric orbit from the inner regions of the asteroid belt. It was discovered on 13 March 1988, by American astronomer Eleanor Helin at Palomar Observatory in California, United States. The S-type asteroid has a rotation period of 3.9 hours and measures approximately 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) in diameter. It was named after the discoverer's daughter-in-law, Nancy Coker Helin.

2285 Ron Helin, provisional designation 1976 QB, is a stony Florian asteroid from the inner region of the asteroid belt, approximately 4 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 27 August 1976, by American astronomer Schelte Bus at Palomar Observatory in San Diego County, California.
