The Kerala Samyukta Socialist Party was a political party in the Indian state of Kerala. The KSSP was founded in 1968, as the two Samyukta Socialist Party ministers in the Kerala state government, P.K. Kunju and P.R. Kurup refused to heed a decision by the national party leadership to resign from their ministerial posts. They broke away from the SSP and formed the KSSP. [1] K. Chandrasekharan was the chairman of KSSP. [2] In May 1969 the majority of KSSP reconstituted itself as the Indian Socialist Party. [1]

Kerala, locally known as Keralam, is a state on the southwestern, Malabar Coast of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956, following passage of the States Reorganisation Act, by combining Malayalam-speaking regions. Spread over 38,863 km2 (15,005 sq mi), Kerala is the twenty-second largest Indian state by area. It is bordered by Karnataka to the north and northeast, Tamil Nadu to the east and south, and the Lakshadweep Sea and Arabian Sea to the west. With 33,387,677 inhabitants as per the 2011 Census, Kerala is the thirteenth-largest Indian state by population. It is divided into 14 districts with the capital being Thiruvananthapuram. Malayalam is the most widely spoken language and is also the official language of the state.
Samyukta Maharashtra Movement was an organisation that, starting in 1956, demanded the creation of a separate Marathi-speaking state out of the (then-bilingual) State of Bombay in western India, with the city of Bombay as its capital. Similarly, in 1956 the Mahagujarat Movement started agitation for creation of separate Gujarati-speaking State out of Bombay State, which became the state of Gujarat.
Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) is a political party in India. The party was founded on 19 March 1940 and has its roots in the Bengali liberation movement Anushilan Samiti and the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army. The party got around 0.4% of the votes and three seats in the Lok Sabha elections in 1999 and 2004. It is part of the Left Front (Tripura).

Indian Congress (Socialist) also known as Congress (Secular) was a political party in India between 1978 and 1986. The party was formed through a split in the Indian National Congress. Initially the party was known as the Indian National Congress (Urs) and was led by D. Devraj Urs. It broke away from the parent party in 1978 following Indira Gandhi's drubbing in the 1977 General Elections. Urs took with him many legislators from Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and Goa including future Union Ministers and Chief Ministers A.K. Antony, Sharad Pawar, Dev Kant Baruah, Priyaranjan Das Munshi, Sarat Chandra Sinha and K. P. Unnikrishnan.
The Praja Socialist Party (PSP) is an Indian political party. It was founded when the Socialist Party, led by Jayprakash Narayan, Acharya Narendra Deva and Basawon Singh (Sinha), merged with the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party led by J.B. Kripalani.
Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) is a voluntary organisation working in the state of Kerala, India. It is claimed to be a people's science movement. At the time of its founding in 1962 it was a 40-member group consisting of science writers and teachers with an interest in science from a social perspective. Over the past four decades its membership has grown to over 60,000 individuals, in more than 2,300 units spread all over Kerala.
M. P. Veerendra Kumar is an Indian politician, writer and journalist, who was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha. He is a member of the Janata Dal (United) political party and the president of Kerala state unit of the party. He is also the chairman and managing director of the Malayalam daily newspaper Mathrubhumi.
The United Left Front was an electoral alliance in West Bengal, India, formed in December 1966, ahead of the 1967 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. The front comprised the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Samyukta Socialist Party, the Socialist Unity Centre of India, the Marxist Forward Bloc, the Revolutionary Communist Party of India, the Workers Party of India and the Revolutionary Socialist Party. The front won 63 seats out of 280. After the election ULF merged with the People's United Left Front, forming the United Front. The UF formed a state government, dislodging the Indian National Congress for the first time in the state.
Socialism in India is a political movement founded early in the 20th century, as a part of the broader Indian independence movement against the colonial British Raj. The movement grew quickly in popularity as it espoused the causes of India's farmers and labourers against the zamindars, princely class and landed gentry. Socialism shaped the principal economic and social policies of the Indian government after independence until the early 1990s, when India moved towards a more market-based economy. However, it remains a potent influence on Indian politics, with a large number of national and regional political parties espousing democratic socialism.

The Indian Socialist Party was a political party in the Indian state of Kerala. ISP was founded in May 1969, by the majority of the erstwhile Kerala Samyukta Socialist Party. The two KSSP ministers in the state government, P.K. Kunju and P.R. Kurup, became members of ISP. The ISP declared that it sought to become an All India party in six months.
Samyukta Vidhayak Dal was coalition of parties formed in several north Indian states after the 1967 assembly elections. It was made up of the Bharatiya Kranti Dal, the Samyukta_Socialist_Party, the Praja Socialist Party, the Jana Sangh. This coalition opposed the Indian National Congress party that had hitherto single-handedly dominated Indian politics.
The West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, 1967 was held in Indian state of West Bengal in 1967 to elect 280 members to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. United Front led by Ajoy Mukherjee won majority of seats in the election, and formed first non-Congress government of the state.
Puthanpurayil Ramunni Kurup, commonly known as P. R. Kurup, was an Indian socialist leader and former minister of Kerala state. Born as the son of Govindan Nambiar and Kunjunjamma at Puthur near Panoor in present-day Kerala state, he was initiated into politics through Indian National Congress in 1935. He got attracted to the ideals of the socialist faction later and worked closely with various socialist parties such as Praja Socialist Party, Samyukta Socialist Party, Janata Party and Janata Dal. In 1967, he became cooperative, irrigation and Devaswam minister in the EMS ministry. In 1996, he became minister for forests and transport in the E. K. Nayanar ministry. He resigned on January 11, 1999 after age-related ailments. He died on January 17, 2001. He was married to (late) K. P. Leelavathi and had four sons and four daughters, including former Kerala state agricultural minister K. P. Mohanan.
The Kerala Legislative Assembly election of 1965 was the third assembly election in the Indian state of Kerala.
United Front or Aikya Munnani was a coalition of political parties in Kerala state, India, which was the ruling combine in the state from 1970 to 1979. The front was formed by five political parties, viz. Communist Party of India (CPI), Indian National Congress (INC), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Praja Socialist Party (PSP), immediately before the 1970 Kerala Legislative Assembly election. The alliance saw the inclusion a few other parties in the following years. United Front dissolved in 1979 after the constituent parties left the alliance in order to form new political alliances, viz. the Left Democratic Front and the United Democratic Front.
