Kermisgasten is a 1936 Dutch film directed by Jaap Speyer.
Jan Holst and his wife Truus were once renowned stage actors, but after a while they ended up in Marinelli's circus tent, where Jan's sister Annie has been working as a circus artist for many years. When Truus is tired of Jan's philandering with other girls, she accepts an offer from a theater agent from the city and leaves Jan and his sister. Marinelli, however, struggles with financial difficulties and Jan and Annie are soon fired, ending up at the same theatre as Truus. There they become understudies for the famous American 'Jolly Sisters', who are quarantined on their ship. Unbeknownst to them, Jan and Annie also came into possession of the stolen jewels of the Jolly Sisters. The sisters have sent two detectives after the jewels, who upon arrival at the theater immediately fall in love with Jan dressed as a Jolly Sister. While Jan and Annie get ready for their first performance, one of the detectives decides to visit their dressing room and present his crush with a bouquet of flowers. The detectives then discover that the woman they adore is in fact a grown man who shaves his legs. Assured that they have caught the jewel thieves, the armed detectives turn up in the prompter's booth while Jan, dressed as Marlene Dietrich, performs the song 'Ich binvon Kopf bis Fueneingestellen'. The artists flee through the audience, and a chase over the rooftops of Amsterdam ensues. Eventually the company accidentally ends up in the room where at that very moment Marinelli's brother, Mr. Jansen, is being questioned by the police in the presence of the real Jolly Sisters. Jansen confesses to the crime and Annie and Jan return the jewels, receiving a hefty reward.

Truus Schröder-Schräder (1889–1985) was a Dutch socialite and trained pharmacist who was closely involved with avant-garde artists and architects of the De Stijl movement. Together with Gerrit Rietveld, she built a house for herself and her three children — the Rietveld Schröder House — which is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Initially credited as a joint designer, this was often forgotten later once Rietveld became a well-known architect. Immediately following their collaboration on the house, she went on to work with Rietveld on multiple other architectural projects as well.

Pipo de Clown is a character created by writer and artist Wim Meuldijk, which became famous as the lead character of a popular early Dutch television series also written by Meuldijk, and which was subsequently popularized in movies and on records. The best-known of Pipo-actors was Amsterdam actor Cor Witschge, who played the part in the television series from 1958 to 1968 and from 1974 to 1980. The regular Pipo cast often performed in theaters and for company occasions. Pipo returned to the mainstream in the 2003 movie Pipo en de p-p-Parelridder, and in the 2009-2010 theater season with the musical Pipo en de Gestolen Stem.

The Nederlandsche Vereeniging voor Ambachts- en Nijverheidskunst (V.A.N.K.) was founded in 1904. It was founded by Jacob Pieter van den Bosch, Herman Hana, Klaas van Leeuwen, Theo Molkenboer, and Willem Penaat. At the turn of the century the idea of artist-craftsmen was emerging. The existing Dutch societies and clubs for painters and architects did not adequately represent these artisans and they formed V.A.N.K., the first society for designers in the Netherlands.
Onze Kunst van Heden was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum Frederik Schmidt Degener. The show was open to all artists, with each artist allowed to enter four pieces. 902 artists exhibited 3,200 works of art in 74 rooms and cabinets of the Rijksmuseum.

Geertruida Catharina Theresia Maria "Truus" Smulders-Beliën was a Dutch politician and teacher who was the mayor of Oost-, West- en Middelbeers in North Brabant from 1946 to 1966. The first female mayor in the Netherlands, she succeeded her husband Jan Smulders after he was executed by Nazi soldiers.
Museum Collectie Brands is a museum in Nieuw-Dordrecht, Drenthe. The museum contains a collection of over seventy thousand objects and books that were collected by Jans Brands (1932-2019) during his lifetime. The ‘crown jewel’ of the museum is a complete medieval register from 1382, which contains a summary of all the feudal lords and their holdings that had sworn fealty to the then bishop of Utrecht, Floris van Wevelinkhoven.
