Kevin Patrick Egan is a sports broadcaster, TV personality and public speaker. Egan is known for his work covering global football, as well as his tenure in WWE. As of 2024, he is lead host for Apple TV+ flagship show 'MLS 360', and resides in the United States with his wife and two children.
Egan is from Raheny in north Dublin, Ireland. [2] His father Liam was an All-Ireland-winning gaelic footballer. [3] [4] Kevin was a member of Raheny GAA. [3] He studied journalism at Griffith College Dublin. [3]
Egan worked for RTÉ Sport as a runner at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He progressed through the ranks in RTE, working both behind the scenes and on air, before making the move Stateside. [3] [5] [6]
Egan moved to Chicago in 2009. [3] [7] Throughout his career covering soccer in the US, Egan has worked for the Big Ten Network, Chicago Fire, 120 Sports, beIN Sports, CNN, Atlanta United and on occasion, Turner Sports, ESPN and FOX Sports. Apple TV+announced Egan as a Play By Play commentator for their inaugural season in 2023, before unveiling him as lead host of 'MLS 360' in 2024. 'MLS 360' is a 4-hour live "whip-around" show from Apple TV's studios in Manhattan, New York. [8] [9] [10]
Egan began working for the WWE in 2021 [11] under the name Kevin Patrick. [12] Originally hired as a backstage reporter, he progressed to presenting studio shows, co-hosting the WWE Kick-Off Shows, and eventually being announced as the first ever foreign voice to lead Raw from October 2022 [9] before moving to Smackdown in 2023. [13] [14] On 23 January 2024, it was reported that Patrick was removed from the SmackDown commentary team, [15] and two days later, it was reported that he was released from his contract. Egan commented that his departure from WWE was amicable, and that it was "time to turn the page". [16]
WWE SmackDown, also known as Friday Night SmackDown or simply SmackDown, is an American professional wrestling television program produced by WWE. The history of WWF/E SmackDown!, began with the show's debut on August 26, 1999, in Kansas City, Missouri. The show was originally broadcast on Thursday nights but moved to Friday on September 9, 2005, before returning to Thursdays on January 15, 2015. On July 19, 2016, it was moved to Tuesday Nights. SmackDown! debuted in the United States on the UPN television network on April 29, 1999, but after the merger of UPN and the WB, SmackDown! began airing on The CW in September 2006. The show was moved to MyNetworkTV in October 2008, to Syfy on October 1, 2010 and to USA Network on January 7, 2016.
