Kevin John Pugh (born 11 October 1960) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder in the Football League for Newcastle United and Darlington and in non-league football for Gateshead. He went on to play for many years in Belgian football, including seven seasons in the First Division, for Charleroi, La Louvière, Francs Borains and Sambreville.

Life and career

Pugh was born in Corbridge, Northumberland, [1] and attended Framwellgate Moor Comprehensive School in Durham. Offered trials by several clubs, he chose to begin his club career with Newcastle United. He made only one substitute appearance for the club's first team, on 7 November 1981, replacing Imre Varadi in a 2–1 defeat at Chelsea in the Second Division. [3] He was released at the end of that season, and dropped into non-league football with Gateshead, playing regularly as they won the 1982–83 Northern Premier League title and with it promotion to the Alliance Premier League. [4] He began the new season with Gateshead, joined Darlington for long enough to make two substitute appearances in the Fourth Division, [1] and was back with Gateshead by October. [5] [lower-alpha 3] He finished his Gateshead career with 24 goals from 76 appearances in all competitions, [8] 5 goals from 36 appearances in the Alliance Premier League. [9]

Pugh continued his career in Belgium with Charleroi. He captained the team to promotion via a fifth-place finish and the Second Division play-offs in his first season, [10] [11] and remained with the club for a further seven seasons in the First Division. [2] He then spent four years with La Louvière, two in the third tier followed by two in the second, [11] and finished his playing career in the fourth tier with a year at Francs Borains and two at Sambreville, whom he also coached. After retiring from football, Pugh stayed in Belgium where he ran a bar in Charleroi. [10] [13]

Kevin Caizley was an English footballer who made 12 appearances in the Football League playing as a midfielder for Darlington. He started his football career on the books of Newcastle United signing as a schoolboy in 1984 before beginning his full-time professional career with them from 1985 to 1988. Without representing them in the football League, he represented them many times in the reserves and youth teams. He then signed for Darlington FC for the 1988–89 season. He then went on to play for North Perth Croatia, Western Australia in 1990. He went on to play non-league football for Newcastle Blue Star, Blyth Spartans and Hebburn Town. He started his academic studies at Gateshead College in 1994 before moving to the United States in 1995 to continue his studies. He continued his full-time studies from 1995 until 2001 when he graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic in April 2001. He practiced privately until 2017, when he became a teacher at Kingwood Park High School. He has also coached competitive soccer in the US with Texas Heatwave, Eclipse, Albion Hurricanes, Kingwood Alliance and Challenge Soccer Clubs.

Ian Hamilton is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder in the Football League for Darlington and in the Belgian First Division for Liège.

Mark Sunley is a former footballer who made 37 appearances in the Football League playing as a centre back for Darlington and Hartlepool United. He was on the books of Middlesbrough and Millwall, without playing for either in the League, and played non-league football for clubs including Halifax Town, Stalybridge Celtic, Spennymoor United, Gateshead, Guisborough Town and Billingham Synthonia.

The 2021–22 Belgian National Division 1 was the sixth season of the third-tier football league in Belgium. With the previous season canceled in January 2021 after just a handful of matches played, the decision was made that no teams would be promoted or relegated, meaning that the same teams are taking part this season. The only exception is Roeselare, which defaulted and ceased to exist, making this a season with only 15 teams. Dender EH became champions on 25 May 2022 after winning their final match of the Promotion play-offs at home to Dessel, while their only remaining opponent RFC Liège, lost away to Knokke.

The 2022–23 Belgian National Division 1 is the seventh season of the third-tier football league in Belgium and the first one in which U23 teams are admitted into the league, due to the last minute bankruptcy of Roeselare. It is the third season under its new name after being renamed from First Amateur Division. The league began in 18 August 2022 and is scheduled to end in 21 May 2023.
