Kewanee High School, or KHS, is a public four-year high school located at 1211 E. Third Street in Kewanee, Illinois, a city in Kewanee Township of Henry County, Illinois, in the Midwestern United States. KHS is part of Kewanee Community Unit School District 229, which also includes Central Junior High School, Central Elementary School, Irving Elementary School, Belle Elementary School, and Lyle Preschool. [2] The campus is 40 miles (64 km) northeast of Galesburg, Illinois, 44 miles (71 km) southeast of Moline, Illinois, and serves a mixed city and rural residential community. The school is one of two high schools in the city of Kewanee, the other being Wethersfield High School. The school is within the Davenport-Moline-Rock Island, IA-IL metropolitan statistical area. [3]
In 2009, 52% of students tested met or exceeded standards on the Prairie State Achievement Examination, a state test that is part of the No Child Left Behind Act. The percent of KHS students considered low income is 60%. The school's average high school graduation rate between 1999-2009 was 80%. [4] [ failed verification ]
In 2009, the faculty was 99 teachers, averaging 12.7 years of experience, and of whom 46% held an advanced degree. The average class size was 17.1 The student to faculty ratio was 19.2. The district's instructional expenditure per student was $4,289. School enrollment decreased from 607 to 539 (11%) in the period of 1999-2009 [4]
The Kewanee High School Drama department has also had many successes. The Group Interpretation team has travelled to state in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. They have also sent many students to compete in the state individual events (speech). In 2010, KHS Alumni Elizabeth VanDamme (nee Maes) became the novice state champion in Poetry Interpretation at the IIFA State speech and Debate tournament hosted at Illinois Central College.
Kewanee is a member school in the Illinois High School Association; its mascot is the Boilermaker. The school has three state championships on record in team athletics and activities: boys' cross country (1996), boys' golf (1948), and debate (1948). [5]
For nearly 50 years, Kewanee High School competed in the North Central Illinois Conference (NCIC). However, after the 2009-2010 school year, KHS left the NCIC and joined the Three Rivers Conference. [6]

Kewanee is a city in Henry County, Illinois. "Kewanee" is the Winnebago word for greater prairie chicken, which lived there. The population was 12,509 in the 2020 census, down from 12,944 in 2000.
The North Central Illinois Conference, far better known as the NCIC, was an IHSA recognized high school extra-curricular conference. Its location, as the name would indicate, was in the north-central part of the state. The schools all hailed from communities with municipal populations in the 5000–20,000 range. This conference was especially superior to the lowly tri River conference.

LaSalle-Peru Township High School, also known as LaSalle-Peru High School, LPHS, or simply LP, is a public four-year high school located at 541 Chartres Street in LaSalle, Illinois, a city in LaSalle County, Illinois, in the Midwestern United States. LPHS serves the communities and surrounding areas of LaSalle, Peru, Oglesby, Tonica, and Dimmick. The campus is located 18 miles west of Ottawa, Illinois. United Township High School, also known as UTHS or UT, is a public four-year high school located in East Moline, Illinois, a city in Rock Island County, in the United States. The school is the only public high school in the city of East Moline, and is part of United Township High School District 30. UTHS is served by the feeder schools of East Moline School District #37, Silvis School District #34, Hampton School District #29, Carbon Cliff-Barstow School District #36, Colona School District #190 which provide elementary and middle school educations for the residents of East Moline, Silvis, Carbon Cliff, Barstow and Hampton in Rock Island County, and the city of Colona in Henry County.
The Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference was a high-school athletic conference with ten high schools in northern Illinois. The conference began competing during the 2010–2011 academic year and dissolved following the 2018–2019 academic year. In many respects, including membership and organization, the NI-Big 12 was much like a reboot of the old North Central Illinois Conference (NCIC). Six of the schools were former members of the North Central Illinois Conference (1929-2011), and the conference was divided into two divisions, much as the NCIC was for decades. The former NCIC schools were Geneseo, LaSalle-Peru, Sterling, Ottawa, and Rochelle. Also, there were five schools that were members of the Western Sun Conference (2007-2010). The former Western Sun Schools are DeKalb, Kaneland, Sycamore, Yorkville, and Rochelle, which left the NCIC in 2007 to join the WSC, and was thus a member of both extinct conferences.
Rockridge High School, or RHS, is a public eight-year high school located at 14110 134th Avenue West in Taylor Ridge, Illinois, an unincorporated area in Rock Island County, Illinois, in the Midwestern United States. RHS is part of Rockridge Community Unit School District 300, which also includes Rockridge Junior High School, Andalusia Elementary School, Illinois City Elementary School, and Taylor Ridge Elementary School. AlWood High School, or AHS, is a public four-year high school located at 301 E. Fifth Avenue in Woodhull, Illinois, a village in Clover Township of Henry County, Illinois, in the Midwestern United States. The name AlWood comes from the combination of Alpha and Woodhull, two villages in southwestern Henry County which each had their own high schools until a consolidation in 1948. AHS is part of AlWood Community Unit School District 225, which also includes AlWood Middle School, and AlWood Elementary School. The school is combined with the Alwood Middle School to form Alwood Middle-High School. This is the result of an addition to the high school building and demolition of the former middle school building in 2001. However, academics, athletics, and activities remain mostly separate. The Western Big 6 Conference is a high school conference in western central Illinois. The conference participates in athletics and activities in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). The conference comprises public high schools with large enrollments, as well a private school, in the Illinois Quad Cities, Galesburg, Illinois, and Quincy, Illinois.
The Three Rivers Conference, also known as the TRAC-8, is a high school conference in northwest Illinois. The conference participates in athletics and activities in the Illinois High School Association. The conference comprises small public, and two private, high schools with enrollments between 200-600 students in portions of Bureau, Henry, Lee, Rock Island, and Whiteside counties.
Abbey Nicole Curran is an American beauty pageant contestant from Davenport, Iowa, who competed in the Miss USA pageant in 2008 as Miss Iowa USA. Curran is the chairwoman of her own non-profit pageant "The Miss You Can Do It Pageant" for young girls and women with special needs. The HBO documentary film Miss You Can Do It (2013) is about her work with this pageant.
The Big Rivers Conference of Illinois was a high school football-exclusive athletic conference that existed from the 1999 through the 2012 football season. Upon its dissolution, it comprised ten teams located in the northwest and north-central portions of the state. It was a member of the Illinois High School Association, and its sister conference for other sports was the Three Rivers Conference. As of the 2013-14 school year, in tandem with a conference expansion, Big Rivers has been reabsorbed into the Three Rivers Conference. This expansion negotiated full membership status for member schools in all Three Rivers Conference sports, thereby negating the need for a football conference carve-out.
The Southland College Preparatory Charter High School is a College Preparatory Charter High School in Richton Park, Illinois. The school serves the communities of Richton Park, Country Club Hills, Matteson, Olympia Fields, and Park Forest.
