Khair bin Muhammad Jefri Jones (born 29 September 1989) [1] [2] is a Malaysian professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Malaysia Super League club Kuala Lumpur City and the Malaysia national team. [3]

Club career

Melaka United

In February 2016, Jones joined the professional Malaysian Premier League club, Melaka United. [4] [5] [6] In his first three matches playing for Melaka United, he was employed in his familiar position on the left. [7] Thereafter, he was played as a centre-back due to his 1.91 metre height which gives him an advantage at winning aerial challenges. [7] [8]

International career

In May 2016, Jones was called up to the Malaysian national team for the matches against Myanmar and Timor-Leste. [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] On 28 May 2016, he earned his first international cap for Malaysia in the friendly match against Myanmar, coming on as a substitute for Fazly Mazlan in the 72nd minute at left back. [16] [17] [18] [19] [20] In just his second appearance for Malaysia, Jones scored his first international goal in the Asian Cup Qualification play-off match against Timor-Leste on 6 June 2016. [21] [22] [23] [24] In that match, he featured in the starting eleven and played as a left winger. [25] [26]

Personal life

Jones was born to Geoff Jones, a New Zealand father of Welsh descent and Norzam Mahmood, a Malaysian mother, in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. He left Malaysia when he was a child with his parents and settled in Palmerston North, New Zealand, which he considers as his hometown. [7] [29] [30]

Harimau Muda is a former Malaysia national under-22 football team. The squad is the feeder team for senior national football team. The club is managed by the Football Association of Malaysia. After winning the Premier League in 2009, the club were split into two teams, Harimau Muda A and Harimau Muda B due to schedule conflicts between league and international matches. Harimau Muda was reinstated in 2015 by combining Harimau Muda A and B back into a single U-22 team with the exception of Harimau Muda C which still plays in FAM League. On 25 November 2015, it was confirmed that the Harimau Muda has disbanded by FAM which means all the player from Harimau Muda A, Harimau Muda B and Harimau Muda C will be returned to their own state.

Datuk Ong Kim Swee DPSM is a Malaysian football manager and former footballer, who is the Head coach of Malaysia Super League club Sabah. He is also the Strategist Club Manager of Sabah Football Club Sdn Bhd in 2021 until 2023, after replaced by Rafie Robert, the Keningau FA former president. He spent most of his career playing for East Malaysian teams, notably Sarawak and Sabah during the mid 1990s.
