Foreign players

Southeast Asia (SEA) players are required to have acquired at least 30 international caps for their senior national team with no period restriction on when they are earned while those who has less than 30 international caps will be subjected to MFL approval.

Johor Darul Ta'zim, Selangor and Terengganu who have their "B" team playing in the Premier League can register another 4 players (3 + 1 AFC). These players can play for the "A" team as long as they fulfilled the relevant regulations under the handbook.

  2. 1 2 MFL officially snubs Melaka United and Sarawak United club licensing approval, as both clubs have problem with overdue payments of staffs or players. Following the rebuilding of Shah Alam Stadium, Selangor played all home fixtures at MBPJ Stadium during this season.

The 2022 season in the Malaysia Super League was Negeri Sembilan's 10th season, while 99th year of its foundation. Since its establishment in 1923, Negeri Sembilan has won the Malaysia Cup several times. It has won the cup in 1948, 2009, and 2011. Along with the league, the club has also competed in the Malaysia Cup and Malaysia FA Cup in 2022.

The 2022 season was Terengganu's 64th season. It is the club's 16th consecutive season in the top flight of Malaysian football, having been promoted from the Malaysia Premier League at the end of the 2005–06 season. The club also participated in the Malaysia FA Cup and Malaysia Cup.

The 2022 season was Melaka United Football Club's 98th season in club history and 6th season in the Malaysia Super League.

The 2023 season is Sabah's eighth competitive season in the highest tier of Malaysian football since the foundation of Malaysia Super League in 2004, and the club's fourth consecutive in the Malaysia Super League.
