The 2023 Durand Cup (also known as IndianOil Durand Cup due to sponsorship ties with the Indian Oil Corporation) was the 132nd edition of Durand Cup, the oldest football tournament in Asia, and the second edition since it was supported by the Asian Football Confederation. [1] The tournament is hosted by the Durand Football Tournament Society in co-operation with the AIFF, Eastern Command of the Indian Armed Forces and the Government of West Bengal, supported by the Government of Assam. Contents

This year for the second time the tournament will be played in more than one city. [2] This will be the second season of the tournament wherein all 12 clubs in the top tier Indian Super League have been mandated to participate, along with invited clubs from I-League, I-League 2 and regional league, and teams representing armed forces. [3]

Bengaluru FC were the defending champions, having defeated Mumbai City FC in the 2022 final. [4] The 2023 IndianOil Durand Cup final saw the Kolkata club Mohun Bagan SG win their 17th Durand Cup title by defeating their arch-rivals East Bengal FC by 1-0. [5]

Teams

The organization committee announced an increase in the number of teams from the previous edition. [6] 19 Indian clubs and 5 services teams, from India, Nepal, and Bangladesh will play in this edition. [7] [8] This is the first time in 27 years a foreign team participates in the tournament. [9]

The teams have been drawn into six groups of four each. Six group winners and the two best second-placed sides will make the knockout stage. [10]

Venues

Initially, Imphal was drafted as a host city. However, due to the 2023 Manipur unrest, Guwahati was set as the replacement. A total of 43 matches are being played across 3 cities — Kolkata, Guwahati and Kokrajhar. 23 matches will be played in Kolkata, including the final, 11 matches in Guwahati, and 9 matches in Kokrajhar. Trophy tour

Like the preceding season, the Durand Football Tournament Society (DFTS) organized a trophy tour across 15 cities before the beginning of the tournament but with much more grandiosity. [15] [16] The tour was flagged off on 30 June from Manekshaw Centre in Delhi Cantonment in the presence of Gen. Manoj Pande, ACM VR Chaudhari and the AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey and toured upon Kartavya Path from India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhavan, later reaching Indian Military Academy in Dehradun on 2 July. [16] The tour continued to Udhampur on 4 July, then to Pune on 6 July, where a grand reception was organized by the officers and cadets at National Defence Academy. [17] [16]

The trophies were received by the Army Officers Institute in Mumbai on 8 July and was publicly showcased at the Gateway of India and the Marine Drive. [18] [16] The tour continued to Jaipur on 9 July, where public showcasing was done at Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal, Albert Hall Museum and Jaipur Vidhan Sabha. [19] [20] [16] The trophies were then unveiled at Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala on 13 July. [16] The tour in Kerala continued with the trophies being sailed on INS Vikrant at Southern Naval Command, Kochi in the presence of Rear Admiral Susheel Menon and IM Viajayan on 15 July. [16] [21] The trophies reached one of the host cities—Guwahati on 16 July. They were received by the Sports Minister of Assam Nandita Gorlosa and Lt. Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita. [22] [16]

The tour continued to Bangalore on 18 July, following to Shillong on 19 July, where the trophies were sailed across Umiam Lake and Orchid Lake and then brought to Kibithu as a part of tribute offering to India's first Chief of Defence StaffGen. Bipin Rawat at General Bipin Rawat Garrison. [23] [24] [16] The trophies traveled to Hyderabad, visiting the Air Force Academy on 20 July and then on 22 July, the trophies reached another host city—Kokrajhar in the presence of Chaubey, the CEM of the BTC Pramod Boro and Maj. Gen. Dinesh Hooda. [25] [26] [16] The trophy tour was flagged in on 25 July in Kolkata which was commemorated by first ever BASE jump in the city taking place from the top of The 42, led by Lt. Col. Satyandra Verma and Gp. Capt. Kamal Singh Oberh.

Official song

On 10 August 2023, Durand Cup Official theme song and a music video featuring Vicky Kaushal were released. The song was titled "Bhide" in Hindi which was sung by Arijit Singh, and Divine, composed by Arijit Singh and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya & Divine. [16]

Broadcasting

Sony Sports Network have acquired the broadcasting rights of Durand Cup for three editions, starting from 2023. The 2023 edition will be live streamed on the network's OTT platform SonyLIV as well as TV channels Sony Ten 2 and Sony Ten 2 HD. [27]

The 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup was the 17th FIFA U-17 World Cup, a biennial international football tournament contested by men's under-17 national teams. The 2019 Durand Cup was the 129th edition of the Durand Cup, oldest football tournament in Asia, since the tournament's founding in 1888. 16 teams competed in the tournament. The matches were played across three locations in West Bengal, namely Kolkata, Howrah and Kalyani from 2 August 2019. The final took place at the Salt Lake Stadium on 24 August 2019.

The 2021–22 I-League was the 15th season of I-League, last as the top tier of Indian football league system, since its establishment in 2007. All the matches were hosted in a bio-secure bubble in West Bengal due to COVID-19 pandemic in India.

The 2021 Durand Cup was the 130th edition of Durand Cup, the oldest football tournament in Asia. Like its previous edition, the tournament was hosted in West Bengal. The tournament is jointly hosted by the Eastern Command of the Indian Armed Forces and the Government of West Bengal.

The 2021 Durand Cup knockout stage began on 23 September with the quarter-finals and ended on 3 October 2021 with the final at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, West Bengal, to decide the champions of the 2021 Durand Cup. A total of 8 teams competed in the knockout phase.

The 2021 Durand Cup Final is the final match of the 2021 Durand Cup, the 130th edition of Asia's oldest football tournament organised by the Durand Football Tournament Society (DFTS) of Indian Armed Forces and jointly hosted by the Eastern Command and the Government of West Bengal. It was played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, India on 3 October 2021.

The 2022–23 season was the 135th competitive association football season in India. The season began in August 2022 and ended in May 2023.

The 2003 Indian Federation Cup, also known as 2003 Tata Federation Cup due to sponsorship reasons, was the 25th season of the Indian Federation Cup. It was held between 26 July and 9 August 2003. Defending champions Mohun Bagan were eliminated by Mohammedan Sporting in the semi-final, who faced Mahindra United in the final. Mahindra United went on to win their maiden title with Shanmugam Venkatesh scoring the winner for them in the 78th minute. Raphaël Patron Akakpo of Mahindra United finished the tournament as the top-scorer with three goals.

The 2022 Durand Cup, also known as IndianOil Durand Cup due to sponsorship ties with Indian Oil Corporation, was the 131st edition of the Durand Cup, the oldest football tournament in Asia, and also the first edition since it was supported by the Asian Football Confederation. This year for the first time the tournament was played in more than one venue. The tournament is hosted by the Durand Football Tournament Society in co-operation with the AIFF, Eastern Command of the Indian Armed Forces and the Government of West Bengal, supported by the governments Assam and Manipur.

The 2022 IndianOil Durand Cup group stage was played from 16 August to 5 September 2022. A total of 20 teams, consisting 11 ISL clubs, 5 I-League clubs and 4 Indian Armed Forces teams, competed in the group stage to decide the 8 places in the knockout stage.

The 2023–24 season is the 7th season in the history of Jamshedpur Football Club and the club's 7th consecutive season in the top flight of Indian football. In addition to the domestic league, Jamshedpur will compete in this season's editions of the Durand Cup and Super Cup. The season covers the period from 1 June 2023 to 31 May 2024.

The 2023–24 season is Gokulam Kerala's seventh season since its establishment in 2017 and their sixth season in the I-League.In addition to the I-League, Gokulam Kerala will participate in the Indian Super Cup and Durand Cup. on 6 June 2023, Spanish manager Mingo Oramas agreed a two year deal to become GKFC manager. On 30 June 2023, the organization committee announced that Gokulam is participating in the Asia's oldest football tournament,Durand cup. The organizers of the 132nd Durand Cup football tournament announced the groups for the 24-participating teams, with defending champions Bengaluru clubbed with two popular Kerala sides Kerala Blasters and 2019 champions Gokulam Kerala in Group C, to be held in Kolkata. The Indian Air Force is the fourth side in the group. On 05th august 2023, gokulam announced 22 member squad for durand cup Gokulam kerala confirmed their Participation in Super cup along with other 5 I-league clubs. On 31 March, it was announced that GKFC had sacked head coach Domingo oramas following their defeat to Delhi FC.

The 2023 IndianOil Durand Cup group stage will be played from 3 August to 22 August 2023. A total of 24 teams, consisting 12 ISL clubs, 5 I-League clubs, 1 I-League 2 club, 1 regional league team, 3 Indian Armed Forces teams and 2 Foreign armed force teams, compete in the group stage to decide the 8 places in the knockout stage.
