Khaled Juma is a writer from Palestine.

Biographical information

Born in Rafah, on October 25, 1965, Juma was raised in Al-Shaboura Palestinian Refugee Camp, in the Gaza Strip. He is[ when? ] Head of the Cultural Department in Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA), and was previously Editor-in-Chief of Roya Magazine for seven years. He has a portfolio of over 29 publications in a variety of genres; poetry, prose poetry, short stories, children's stories, TV sketches, plays and over 100 songs. [1]

Works

Juma has published nine poetry collections. His children's books include The Little Olive Tree, The Magic Carpet, The Sun's Journey, The Colors of Palestine ,My Grandfather's Stories, Diaries of a Germ, an educational title about hygiene, and Black Ear, Blonde Ear which teaches tolerance and acceptance of others. "Three Legs" won second place in the Diwan Al-Arab Competition in 2006. [2] Juma has written and adapted a number of theatrical plays. Gaza, Your Sea is a dance musical.[ citation needed ]

He has also written over 100 songs in both classic Arabic and the Palestinian dialect. His songs have been performed by Palestinian musicians such as Said Murad, Moneim Adwan, Odeh Turjman, Mahmoud Al-Abbadi, Reem Talhami, and Mohammad Assaf.[ citation needed ] He wrote the opening song for the Palestinian television series Amm Jbara. [3] His works have been translated into English, French, Spanish, German, Bulgarian, Norwegian and Dutch. [4] Juma founded a folklore dance group in Gaza, and hosts creative writing workshops for children and adults.[ citation needed ]

Maya Abu Al-Hayat (1980) is a Palestinian novelist, poet, storyteller, and translator, born in Beirut. She has published three novels and three collections of poetry. Her books have gained worldwide recognition, and some of her stories have been translated into different languages. Abu Al-Hayat also worked as an actress and ran the Palestine Writing Workshop. Abu Al-Hayat played a prominent role in children's literature, writing and presenting television programs for children, including "Iftah Ya Simsim," and was distinguished by her writing of children's stories.

Aisha Odeh is a Palestinian writer. As a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), she participated in a 1969 supermarket bombing that killed two Israelis for which she received life imprisonment. Odeh was released early in 1979 and has since remained an active participant in Palestinian organisations. She has published three books including an autobiography that details allegations of abuse during her imprisonment.

Khaled Hourani is a Palestinian artist, curator, critic, and writer. Since 2019, Hourani has worked as a freelance artist in Ramallah, participating in exhibitions abroad and within Palestine. Hourani is known for his contributions to the contemporary art scene in Ramallah and his visual works focusing on themes of Palestinian struggle and resistance.
