Oulu is a city in Finland and the regional capital of North Ostrobothnia. It is located on the northwestern coast of the country at the mouth of the River Oulu. The population of Oulu is approximately 215,000, while the sub-region has a population of approximately 263,000. It is the 5th most populous municipality in Finland, and the fourth most populous urban area in the country. Oulu is also the most populous city in Northern Finland.
Haukipudas is a town and former municipality of Finland. It was located in the province of Oulu and is part of the Northern Ostrobothnia region. Its shore runs along the Gulf of Bothnia, with the river Kiiminkijoki running through the province. It provides psychiatric special health care, emergency- and crisis services, outpatient care, and other services for the member municipalities and the whole catchment area for highly specialized medical care (erityisvastuualue) of the Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District, as well as for the insurance companies and judiciaries of the said district. It is the most important psychiatric hospital in Northern Finland.
