Shawn Gugin known professionally as King Gug is an American rapper, singer and songwriter.

Gugin began his career as an independent artist in 2020 and signed with SMR Records in 2022. He released the singles "Gotta Tell You", "A Sad Valentine's Day" and "Rye" in December 2020, since then all of them have been removed from YouTube and Souncloud. He gained recognition for his 2022 debut album Love & Depression. [1] [2]

Career

2020-2022: Beginnings, record deal and debut singles

Gugin independently released his debut singles "Gotta Tell You", "A Sad Valentine's Day" and "Rye" in December 2020, and the single "Goodbye & Good Riddance" on December 30, 2021. Gugin was signed to SMR Records in March 2022 after getting discovered by Hakoty Remki and Ariana Raykotto.

2022-present: Love & Depression, label controversy and NOTHINGS CHANGED

Gugin released his 8-track debut studio album Love & Depression on March 10, 2022, via SMR Records. This album spawned the singles "Love is Difficult", "I Fall Apart", and "Goodbye & Good Riddance (Remix)". On July 20, 2022, Gugin, along with Hakoty Remki and Ariana Raykotto left SMR Records claiming they verbally abused them and they said their demos were garbage and "children's music". On October 20, 2022, Gugin released his EP NOTHINGS CHANGED [3] [4] via his independent label Toledo Records, this EP spawned the singles "STABBED!", "1 Call Away" and "Goodbyes". On January 1, 2023, Gugin released the single "The Therapy Session" via Toledo Records. On January 2, 2023, Gugin released the compilation album Demon High. [5] [6] King Gug is currently working on his second studio album Fallen Into The Darkness. King Gug and Ariana Raykotto are currently working on a collaborative album titled Unfinished Business, the album is named after their scrapped collaborative album Reality [7] which was later released in October 2022 without King Gug. Unfinished Business is scheduled for release in mid-2023. On January 4, 2023, Gugin obtained the rights to his masters released via SMR Records, all of his songs released by SMR Records are now owned by his label Toledo Records.
