King Ratnam is a Sri Lankan actor and film director. [1] [2] He is regarded as a talented film-maker in the nation, as he has directed numerous advertisements, short films, and documentary films. [3] He played a key role in the production of a Sri Lankan made Tamil language feature-length film after 40 years in Sri Lankan Tamil cinema history as the director of the film titled, Komaali Kings . [4] His attempt to rekindle and re-establish nostalgic memories of the hay days of Sri Lankan Tamil cinema is set to be one of the turning points in Sri Lanka's resilience from the lost glory in the Tamil cinema industry. Early life

King Ratnam comes from a family with a background of art and cinema. He is the grandson of stage, radio, and film artist M.S. Ratnam. [6]

He is the younger brother of Jude Ratnam, also a film director who is known for successfully directing the short documentary film Demons in Paradise related to the July 1983 riots.

Career

King was part of the 2012 film before starring in the 2016 Sinhala romantic film, Let Her Cry . Apart from acting, he also became a professional director as he was inspired by his elder brother, Jude Ratnam. King Ratnam rose to prominence as a director through the Sri Lankan short documentary film, Echoing Hills, which was released in 2014 and got positive reviews. He made his directorial debut in a feature-length film for the first time with Komaali Kings. [7] He himself plays an important role as "Pat" in the film. [6]

The film, starring Raja Ganeshan, Kamala Sri Mohan, Darshan Dharmaraj, Gajan Kanesshan, Niranjani Shanmugaraja, Sathiyapriya Ratnasaamy along with King Ratnam in the lead roles, opened to positive reviews among the audience after the first day. The film also received praise from the critics for its satire and comedy storyline.

<i>Demons in Paradise</i> 2017 film

Demons in Paradise is a 2017 trilingual Sri Lankan based documentary feature film written by Isabelle Marina and directed by Jude Ratnam in his directorial debut depicting the worst consequences for both Sinhalese and Tamils due to the 30 year long endured Sri Lankan Civil War. The portions of the film were mostly shot in Sri Lanka and was set in France. The film had its world premiere during the 2017 Cannes Film Festival in May 2017 and was opened to highly positive reviews making it as an internationally acclaimed and recognised film. Jude Ratnam became the first Tamil filmmaker to openly criticise the Tamil Tigers through the plot of the documentary film and the film received criticism among Sri Lankan Jaffna Tamils for the storyline.

Wasantha Kumaravila is a Sri Lankan actor, and stunt director. Particularly active in cinema in villain roles, Kumaravila is also a film producer and stunt performer. He is most notable for the role "Wasantha" in soap opera Nilanjana directed by Suki Jeyaram.

<i>Praana</i> (2022 film) 2022 Sri Lankan film

Praana (Seeds) (Sinhala: ප‍්‍රාණ, Tamil: வித்துக்கள்) is a 2022 Sri Lankan trilingual drama film directed by Sanjaya Nirmal and produced by Janaka Perera. The film stars Shyam Fernando, Niranjani Shanmugaraja, Darshan Dharmaraj in lead roles, whereas Nita Fernando and King Ratnam made supportive roles. The film is based on the true story of the Great Catholic Christian Massacre of nearly 700 Christians that took place in 1544 in Mannar and the chain of events related to the same massacre that took place in 1560.
