The Kiribati Islands Football Association (KIFA) is the governing body of football in Kiribati and was established in 1980. It organises the nation's football league, the Kiribati National Championship as well as Kiribati's own national men's squad and national women's squad. [2]

Kiribati, officially the Republic of Kiribati, is a sovereign state in Micronesia in the central Pacific Ocean. The permanent population is just over 110,000 (2015), more than half of whom live on Tarawa Atoll. The state comprises 32 atolls and reef islands and one raised coral island, Banaba. They have a total land area of 800 square kilometres (310 sq mi) and are dispersed over 3.5 million square kilometres.

The Kiribati National Championship is the top division of competitive football in the nation of Kiribati, founded in 2002 by the Kiribati Islands Football Association (KIFA), the nations football governing body. The association and the National Championships are based in the capital city, South Tarawa.

Kiribati national football team national association football team

The Kiribati national football team is the national men's football team of Kiribati and is controlled by the Kiribati Islands Football Association. Kiribati is not a member of FIFA but is an associate member of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), and is therefore not eligible to enter the FIFA World Cup but may enter the OFC Nations Cup. It became a provisional member of the N.F.-Board on 10 December 2005.

The Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA) is the international governing body for association football teams that are not affiliated with FIFA. Currently, CONIFA is responsible for the organization of the ConIFA World Football Cup and the CONIFA European Football Cup.

The KIFA has been overseeing the Kiribati national football team since 1979 when the national side started, losing 13–0 to Papua New Guinea.
The KIFA also organises the Kiribati football league each year in which clubs from all over the nation play each other.
