Kirk Douglas Phillips (born July 31, 1960) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons. He played college football at the University of Tulsa.

American football, referred to as football in the United States and Canada and also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The wide receiver functions as the pass-catching specialist.

He accepted a football scholarship from the University of Tulsa. He was converted into a wide receiver and played on run oriented offenses. [2] As a sophomore, he was named a starter and was second on the team with 13 receptions for 264 yards (20.3-yard avg.).

Phillips was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys after the 1983 NFL Draft. [3] He was placed on the injured reserve list in August, with a thumb injury. In 1984, he was the team's fourth wide receiver, registering one reception for 6 yards, while appearing in 8 games. He was released on August 27, 1985. [4]

The 1983 NFL Draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held April 26–27, 1983, at the New York Sheraton Hotel in New York City, New York. No teams elected to claim any players in the supplemental draft that year.

The injured reserve list is an official designation used by the National Football League (NFL) and National Hockey League (NHL) for athletes who become injured and temporarily unable to play. It is analogous to the injured list in the Canadian Football League (CFL) or the injured list in Major League Baseball (MLB). Atlanta Falcons

After the NFLPA strike was declared on the third week of the 1987 season, those contests were canceled (reducing the 16 game season to 15) and the NFL decided that the games would be played with replacement players. Phillips was signed in September to be a part of the Atlanta Falcons replacement team. [7] He was a backup at wide receiver, appearing in 3 games and didn't record any offensive statistic. He was released on October 19, at the end of the strike. [8]
