Kirstin Kahaloa is an American politician serving in the Hawaii House of Representatives for the 6th district (Honaunau,Captain Cook,Kealakekua,Keauhou,Holualoa,Kailua-Kona). She won the seat in the 2022 election against Republican opponent Jonathan Kennealy,as part of the largest freshman class in the House in decades. [2]
Kahaloa was born and raised on Hawaii Island and graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 2001.
Kahaloa worked as executive director of the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce,legislative aide to Senator Dru Kanuha,community engagement lead for the Blue Zones Project,portfolio manager - sustainable industry development for Kamehameha Schools,and most recently as director of programs and partnerships for the 'Iole Global Resiliency Hub. During the 32nd Hawaii State Legislature,she worked with Senator Dru Kanuha and Representative Nicole Lowen to prioritize over $18 million in funding for upgrades to the Kona Community Hospital. Bishop's will established a trust called the "Bernice Pauahi Bishop Estate" that is Hawaiʻi's largest private landowner. Originally established in 1887 as an all-boys school for native Hawaiian children,it shared its grounds with the Bishop Museum. After it moved to another location,the museum took over two school halls. Kamehameha Schools opened its girls' school in 1894. It became coeducational in 1965. The Hawaii State Senate is the upper house of the Hawaii State Legislature. It consists of twenty-five members elected from an equal number of constituent districts across the islands and is led by the President of the Senate,elected from the membership of the body,currently Ron Kouchi. The forerunner of the Hawaii Senate during the government of the Kingdom of Hawaii was the House of Nobles originated in 1840. In 1894,the Constitution of the Republic of Hawaii renamed the upper house the present senate. Senators are elected to four-year terms and are not subject to term limits.
King Kamehameha I Day on June 11 is a public holiday in the U.S. state of Hawaii. Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park is a United States National Historical Park located on the west coast of the island of Hawaiʻi in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The historical park preserves the site where,up until the early 19th century,Hawaiians who broke a kapu could avoid certain death by fleeing to this place of refuge or puʻuhonua. The offender would be absolved by a priest and freed to leave. Defeated warriors and non-combatants could also find refuge here during times of battle. The grounds just outside the Great Wall that encloses the puʻuhonua were home to several generations of powerful chiefs.
