Kiss My Art is the second studio album released by Australian rock band, Painters and Dockers, which peaked in the top 30 of the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) albums charts in September 1988. [1] The album spawned four singles, "Nude School", "Die Yuppie Die", "Love on Your Breath" and "Safe Sex", and the first two achieved top 50 chart success. [2] [3] The album was produced by hard rocker Lobby Loyde, [4] except for "Nude School" which was produced by Francois Taviaux aka Franswah.

Background

Painters and Dockers formed in 1982 with Vladimir Juric (guitars, backing vocals), Andy Marron (drums), Phil Nelson (bass guitar), Chris O'Connor (guitars, backing vocals) and Paul Stewart (vocals, trumpet). [4] Their name was chosen when they played at a pub frequented by Federated Ship Painters and Dockers Union members, with no other name they adopted Painters and Dockers for the gig and kept it.

By 1984, Marron had left and new members were Colin Buckler (drums), Mick Morris (saxophone) and Dave Pace (trumpet, backing vocals). [4] "Nude School" was released in June 1987 and peaked in the top 30 of the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) singles charts and was followed by "Die Yuppie Die" which reached the top 50 in September. [2]

Their third studio album, Kiss My Art, was released in August 1988 on Mushroom Records' imprint White Label Records, which peaked in the top 30 of the ARIA albums charts in September. [1] The album was produced by hard rocker Lobby Loyde, [4] except for the earlier track, "Nude School" which was produced by Francois Taviaux aka Franswah. Two further singles, "Love on Your Breath" and "Safe Sex", from the album were released but did not reach the top 50. [3]

The LP album cover claimed it was produced by no-one, in fact, it was recorded independently by engineer Tony Cohen and the group, prior to signing with Mushroom Records. It was released in November 1980, but no singles were released commercially from the album, although "Two People Per km²" and "Uncontrollable Boy" were on a 12-inch disc released to radio stations, and a music video was made for "Two People Per km²".

Richard Arnold Pleasance is an Australian rock musician and producer. He was a founding member of Boom Crash Opera on guitar, bass guitar, vocals and as a songwriter in 1985; they released three albums before Pleasance left in 1992. Their hit Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) singles, "Great Wall" and "Onion Skin" were co-written by Pleasance, who also co-produced their second album, These Here Are Crazy Times. His debut solo release, Galleon received four nominations at the ARIA Music Awards for 1992. The Honeymoon Is Over is the third studio album by Australian indie rock band The Cruel Sea, which was released in May 1993. The album was produced by the band, Tony Cohen and Mick Harvey for Red Eye Records. It peaked at No. 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart and has sold over 140,000 copies. Its lead single, "Black Stick" was released ahead of the album in March 1993 and peaked at No. 25 on the related Singles Chart. The title song, "The Honeymoon Is Over", was released in July 1993 as a single and reached the Top 50. It was followed by a cover of Tony Joe White's 1969 song, "Woman with Soul", in October which peaked at No. 64. The final single from the album, "Seems Twice", was issued in February 1994 and peaked at No. 90.

Buster Brown was an Australian rock band, which featured vocalist Angry Anderson and drummer Phil Rudd, that was formed in Melbourne in 1973. Their sound was hard rock mixed with blues rock influences. Their first album, Something to Say was produced by Lobby Loyde and released in 1974. Rudd left to join an early version of AC/DC while Anderson continued with new line-ups and eventually disbanded the group in November 1975. Anderson joined Rose Tattoo which later included former Buster Brown bandmates, Geordie Leach on bass guitar and Dallas "Digger" Royall on drums.

<i>The Makarrata Project</i> 2020 studio album by Midnight Oil

The Makarrata Project is the twelfth studio album by Australian band Midnight Oil, released on 30 October 2020 by Sony Music Australia. The album is the first new material from the band since 2002's Capricornia, their first studio album to hit #1 on the ARIA Charts since 1990's Blue Sky Mining, and one of the final releases to feature bassist and backing vocalist Bones Hillman before his death in November 2020.
