Kitsap Bank is a community bank headquartered in Port Orchard, Washington in the United States. Established in 1908, it is the oldest and largest locally owned bank in Washington state.
Founded in Port Orchard in 1908 by Jacob Furth, George Miller, Peter Nordby, and John Yakey, Kitsap Bank was originally known as Kitsap County Bank. [2] Frank Langer purchased the bank in 1922, serving as its president until his death in 1952. [2] After Langer's death his widow, Hannah Langer (née Norum), was solicited to sell the bank by several larger, Seattle-based institutions but ultimately spurned their offers. [2] Hannah Langer, the daughter of a director of the First National Bank of Poulsbo, became the first female president of a bank in the western United States, heading Kitsap County Bank until 1972 as president, and continuing as chairperson of the board of directors until 1985. [2] [3] By 1977 the bank's assets had grown to $47 million and it owned four retail locations. [4]
From 1985 to 2012, the bank's president was Jim Carmichael. [4] In 1987, Kitsap County Bank changed its name to Kitsap Bank. [5]
Between 2005 and 2015 Kitsap Bank's holding company, Olympic Bancorp, acquired three regional banks which were then folded into Kitsap Bank: Fife Commercial Bank, a single branch bank located in Fife, Washington; Westsound Bank in Bremerton, Washington; and MarinerBank in Port Townsend, Washington. In 2014 the bank opened a new location in Bremerton, Washington that featured an integrated Starbucks with separate drive-through windows for the bank and coffeehouse. [7] The new facility replaced a previous Kitsap Bank building at the same site; John Glomsted, the manager who opened the previous branch location in 1961, was tapped as the "honorary first customer" during the new building's opening. According to its annual report for 2016, Kitsap Bank held more than $1 billion in deposit accounts and had assets totaling $1.1 billion. [8] That year, it had the largest market share of banks in Jefferson County, Washington, with $113 million in deposits equaling about 23 percent of the value of all deposit accounts in the county. Kitsap Bank is the only asset of its holding company, Olympic Bancorp. [10] As of 2016 Kitsap Bank was the tenth largest bank in Washington, and the largest and oldest locally owned bank in the state. [2] It has 21 retail locations in western Washington. [1]
The chief executive officer of Olympic Bancorp and Kitsap Bank as of 2018 was Steven Politakis, and the bank's president was Anthony M. George. [11] The chair of Olympic Bancorp's board of directors in 2018 was Cydly Langer Smith and its vice chair was Helen Langer Smith. [10]
From 2013 to 2017 Kitsap Bank was included on the annual list of the 75 "most generous Washington state corporate philanthropists" published by the Puget Sound Business Journal. [12] [13]
Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, officially Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, is a United States Navy shipyard covering 179 acres (0.7 km²) on Puget Sound at Bremerton, Washington in uninterrupted use since its establishment in 1891; it has also been known as Navy Yard Puget Sound and Bremerton Navy Yard.

Sinclair Inlet is an arm of Puget Sound in Kitsap County, Washington, USA. It is the southwestern extension of Port Orchard, and it touches the shores of three of Kitsap County's four incorporated cities: Bremerton, Bainbridge Island, and Port Orchard. It is connected to Dyes Inlet by the Port Washington Narrows and to Puget Sound by Rich Passage. It was named by United States Navy explorer Charles Wilkes for George T. State Route 310 (SR 310) is a 1.84-mile-long (2.96 km) state highway in the U.S. state of Washington, serving the city of Bremerton in Kitsap County. The highway travels east within Bremerton from an interchange with SR 3 to an intersection with SR 304 as Kitsap Way and Callow Avenue. SR 310 was established in 1991, following the former alignment of SR 3 on city streets in Bremerton before the construction of its current freeway in the 1960s and 1970s. The highway was codified in 1915 as State Road 21 in 1915 and Primary State Highway 21 (PSH 21) in 1937 before becoming SR 3 during the 1964 highway renumbering.
Bremerton Marina is a public marina located in downtown Bremerton, Washington on Puget Sound, in Sinclair Inlet. The facility of the marina is within Kitsap County.
Inland Flyer was a passenger steamboat that ran on Puget Sound from 1898 to 1916. From 1910 to 1916 this vessel was known as the Mohawk. The vessel is notable as the first steamer on Puget Sound to use oil fuel. Inland Flyer was one of the most famous vessels of the time on Puget Sound.
Carlisle II is the oldest of only two operational examples of a Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet vessel. They were once part of a large fleet of small passenger and freight carrying ships that linked the islands and ports of Puget Sound in Washington state in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Kitsap Fast Ferries is a passenger ferry service operating between Seattle and Kitsap County in the U.S. state of Washington. It is funded and operated by Kitsap Transit and began service in July 2017, with a single boat traveling between Seattle and Bremerton. A second route, from Seattle to Kingston, launched in November 2018, and a third route serving Seattle and Southworth began operating in March 2021.
