Kizito Maria Kasule (born 1967) is a Ugandan artist and entrepreneur. [1] His work has been shown throughout East Africa, Belgium, Austria, Germany, Australia, and France, [2] as well as in Denmark and Norway. He has been a lecturer at Makerere University since 1992. [2]
Kasule opened the Nagenda International Academy of Art and Design (NIAAD), a school of higher education in art, in 2006. [1]
Kizito Maria was born on 1967 a rural village in Uganda. He was the youngest among 12 brothers and sisters. His parents owned a small family-run coffee plantation. At the age of 11 his father demanded that his son quit school and work in the family plantation instead. The young Kizito refused to quit his studies and in return was forced by his father to leave his home. The next few months Kizito lived as a street child, knocking on random doors and offering to work in return for food and shelter. Eventually he was picked by a local man and allowed to reside with him. The next couple of years Kizito spent studding in the morning and working in several coffee plantations at the afternoon in order to pay for his tuition and keep. [1]
In 1987 a civil war broke out in the north of Uganda. Two years later, at the age of 16, Kizito was arrested and sent to a military camp. He labored as a grave digger for fellow prisoners who were executed. One day, after finishing digging several graves, he and his cellmates were ordered to stand at the edge of the graves in front of a firing squad. The soldiers then started executing the prisoners one-by-one, sparing only Kizito's life due to the acquaintance between his dad and one of the camp's officers, who allowed Kizito's escape. He then escaped Uganda with a fake ID. He returned three years later and attended Makerere University in Kampala. In 1992 Kizito graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art. [1]
In 1994 he held his first solo exhibition, which received positive reviews. [1]
In 2003 Kizito completed his PhD in art history from Makerere University and won a scholarship to Burren College of Art in Ireland. [1]
Kizito Maria is also a philanthropist and community activist. His main community project is the art college of NIAAD which educates teens and other young Ugandans. In 2009 NIAAD joined with the Israeli non-profit organization Brit Olam to create the "Muse Uganda" project. The project houses and educates disadvantaged youth from Uganda and enables them to join the NIAAD academy as regular students at a subsidized price. [1]

Emmanuel Wamala is a Ugandan cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, and former Archbishop of Kampala from 1990 to 2006. He is currently serving as the Cardinal-Priest of Sant'Ugo, appointed in 1994.
Makerere University, Kampala is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. It became an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates. He is a senior adviser to the President of Uganda and has sat on the board of directors of nearly forty Ugandan companies. He is the chancellor of Victoria University Uganda, a private institution. From 2004 until 2014, he served as the founding chancellor of Gulu University, a public university.
Esteri Tebandeke is a Ugandan filmmaker, actress, dancer and visual artist. She is a graduate of the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art at Makerere University.
Barnabas Nawangwe, is a Ugandan architect, academic and the current vice chancellor of the Makerere University, the largest public university of Uganda. He served his first five-year term from 2017 until August 2022. On 12 August 2022, the Makerere University Council re-appointed him for a second term of five years.

Theresa Musoke is a Ugandan-Kenyan painter and visual artist most well known for her experimentational and expressive depictions of Kenyan wildlife and women's experiences in African. She is most widely known for her work in painting and printmaking, but also uses batik, barkcloth, acrylic, and dye, among other materials in her works, even venturing to sculpture on occasion. Musoke describes her works as "semi-abstract" and incorporates themes such as her multinational heritage, African identity as a whole, and feminist themes including domestic roles, motherhood and family planning into her pieces. Musoke's art reflects the turbulent political crisis in which she grew up, representing a diverse mix of systems, media, and styles, both traditional and contemporary, in addition to "decades of change from self-taught traditions to Western art school training, emerging as an art form that celebrates a rich historical and cultural heritage that cannot be understood solely in terms of elements and principles of art and design".
Anne Juuko, is a Ugandan investment banker and corporate executive, who is the managing director and chief executive officer of Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited, the largest commercial bank in the country, by assets, valued at US$1.6 billion in June 2019. She took up this appointment on 1 March 2020.
Namubiru Rose Kirumira. is a Ugandan sculptor and senior lecturer at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts (MTSIFA), Department of Visual Arts, College of Engineering Design Art and Technology, at Makerere University. She specializes in human form, sculpted wood, clay and concrete monumental sculptures. Her works include the statue King Ronald Mwenda Mutebi with the sculptor and professor Francis Nnaggenda at Bulange Mengo, and Family at Mulago Hospital in Kampala.
Rehmah Kasule is a Ugandan social entrepreneur, public speaker and author. She is the founder of CEDA International a non-profit organization in Uganda.
