Kobi Karp is a Miami-based architect and founder of Kobi Karp Architecture & Interior Design, which he founded in 1995. [1] Karp has designed houses for NBA star Juwan Howard and for Barry Sternlicht, founder of Starwood Capital Group. [2]

Career

Kobi Karp Architecture & Interior Design has designed projects around the world that have cost $36 billion to develop. [1] Karp has worked on multiple luxury projects in South Florida, [3] [4] including the Astor & Edison Hotels [1] as well as Palazzo Del Sol [5] and Palazzo Della Luna, [6] located on Fisher Island, which has the highest per capita income of any place in the United States. [7] Other projects include the Four Seasons Private Residences in Fort Lauderdale, [8] a building that includes 150 private residences [6] and a 12,000 square foot home in Miami Beach. [9] [10]

Karp designed Monad Terrace, a 59-unit Miami Beach condominium that was designed to withstand a category 5 hurricane [2] [11] and a waterfront $38 million home on Biscayne Bay in Miami Beach. [12] Karp also designed The Surf Club, originally built in 1930 and revamped in 2017. [13] Other projects include a high rise in Fort Lauderdale [14] and three 16-story towers in Tampa, Florida, which are planned for completion in 2027. [15]

Personal life and education

Karp, originally from Israel, relocated to Minneapolis when he was young. [1] He majored in architecture and environmental design at the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology. Karp currently lives in Miami with his wife and two sons. [1]

Miami Modernist architecture, or MiMo, is a regional style of architecture that developed in South Florida during the post-war period. The style was internationally recognized as a regionalist response to the International Style. It can be seen in most of the larger Miami and Miami Beach resorts built after the Great Depression. Because MiMo styling was not just a response to international architectural movements but also to client demands, themes of glamour, fun, and material excess were added to otherwise stark, minimalist, and efficient styles of the era. The style can be most observed today in Middle and Upper Miami Beach along Collins Avenue, as well as along the Biscayne Boulevard corridor starting from around Midtown, through the Design District and into the Upper Eastside.

The Conrad Fort Lauderdale is a luxury condominium-hotel resort located on ocean-front property on North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The resort includes 181 condo-hotel units, as well as 109 condominium units in a separate building known as The Ocean Resort Residences. The project initially began construction in July 2005, as Trump International Hotel & Tower Fort Lauderdale. Donald Trump lent his name to the project through a licensing deal before being elected the President of the United States, with New York developer Roy Stillman and Bayrock Group as the project developers. The project's opening was initially scheduled for 2007, but was delayed several times.

Lester Avery was an architect in the United States. Avery began his career in Clearwater and is known for his Mid-Century Modern architecture apartment buildings in Miami and ranch style home designs with angled, flat roofs and merging wings. He expanded Lawrence Murray Dixon's The Temple House in Miami's South Beach area. Avery was the architect of Clearwater, Florida's Capitol Theatre, opened March 21, 1921. It was built by Senator-elect John Stansel Taylor and the contractor was John D. Phillipoff. He also designed the Jackie Gleason House (1959) at 2232 Alton Road in Miami.

After the death of Hadid, the Project Director of Zaha Hadid Architects, Chris Lepine, completed the project. Oppenheim Architecture is an architecture, planning, and interior practice based in Miami, New York, and Basel founded in 1999 by Chad Oppenheim. The firm has received multiple distinctions, including over 45 AIA Awards. Projects range between hospitality, commercial mixed-use, retail, and residential buildings in over 25 countries. The firm is notable for designing L.A. Villa, film director Michael Bay's residence. In 2018, the practice received the National Design Award for Interior Design by Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.

John Latham Volk was an Austrian architect who designed public buildings and private residences in and around Palm Beach, Florida from the 1920s until his death in 1984. Although there is no particular style exclusively associated with Volk, he worked with many styles from Mediterranean Revival to Modern. Volk was among a group of architects considered the “Big Five,” along with Marion Sims Wyeth, Addison Mizner, Maurice Fatio, and Howard Major, who defined Palm Beach style in the early twentieth century.
