Russey did not get invited to the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, and went unselected in the 2022 NFL draft. Afterwards, he was signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent. [8] He played in all of the Patriots' preseason games but did not start in any of them, and was released at the final roster cuts; Russey was subsequently re-signed to their practice squad. [9] He was elevated to the active roster for their games against the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts, on October 30 and November 6, respectively, but did not play in either. Russey was signed to the active roster on November 8, and remained there the rest of the season, but was inactive for each game. [10]

On August 29, 2023, Russey was waived by the Patriots and re-signed to the practice squad. [11] [12] He was not among the team's players signed to reserve/future contracts in 2024, and thus became a free agent at the expiration of his practice squad contract. [13] [14]
