Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) is a government-run medical college cum hospital located in Rangalikhata,Kokrajhar,Assam [2] .The College started functioning in 2023 with approval from NMC.It is only the government run medical College whole Bodoland Territorial Region headquarter, Kokrajhar district [3]

History

The college operates under the State Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Assam. It is recognised by National Medical Commission and affiliated with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, Guwahati. [4] Currently the college has an intact capacity of 100 undergraduate students, from the academic year 2021–22. [5]

On 14 April 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the college and Hospital, along with All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Guwahati and two other medical colleges. [6]

Gossaigaon is one of the fastest-developing towns and the hometown of the state's youngest Raimona National Park in the Bodoland region of Assam, India. This is a sub-divisional headquarter of Kokrajhar district. It shares its boundaries with the neighboring state West Bengal in the west and Dhubri district to the south. It is one of the BTR's proposed districts. Gossaigaon is well connected by ground transportation and rails. The town serves as a direct route by road to the state's youngest Rupsi Airport located in the southernmost part of the town. Madati and Sankosh are some of the prominent rivers that flow through the heart of the town, and forested areas include such saleable trees as Shorea robusta (sal), Tectona grandis (teak). This place practices organic farming as well as modern agriculture, following recent scientific developments.

National Medical Commission (NMC) is an Indian regulatory body of 33 members which regulates medical education and medical professionals. It replaced the Medical Council of India on 25 September 2020. The Commission grants recognition of medical qualifications, gives accreditation to medical schools, grants registration to medical practitioners, and monitors medical practice and assesses the medical infrastructure in India.

On 26 May 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Institute. The institute was inaugurated on 14 April 2023 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The institute has an annual intake of 100 MBBS students. The academic activity for the first batch of 50 MBBS students started in January 2021.
