Korkitony is a village near Chebiemit village, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, Kenya. It is part of Kapchemutwa location of Kamariny Division of Keiyo District. Its local authority is Keiyo County Council and constituency is Keiyo North.

It is the birthplace of professional runner Brimin Kipruto. [1]

Brimin Kipruto is a Kenyan professional middle distance runner who specialises in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He was born in Korkitony, Keiyo District. He holds a personal best of 7:53.64 minutes which is the second fastest time ever run, and the African Record. His personal best is only 0.01 of a second behind the world record of former county mate Saif Saaeed Shaheen, who switched national affiliation to Qatar after growing up as Stephen Cherono in the Keiyo District.

The Elgeyo are an ethnic group who are part of the larger Kalenjin ethnic group of Nilotic origin. They live near Eldoret, Kenya, in the highlands of the former Keiyo District, now part of the larger Elgeyo Marakwet County. The Elgeyo originally settled at the foothills of the Elgeyo escarpment, in the area between Kerio river to the east and the escarpment to the west. Due to drought and famine in the valley, the Keiyos climbed the escarpment and started to settle on the highland east of Uasin Gishu plateau. When the British came, the Keiyos were pushed to settle in clusters called reserves.

The Men's 3,000 metres Steeplechase event at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics was held on August 7 and August 9 at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium. The first three of each heat (Q) plus the six fastest times (q) qualified for the final.

Kaptagat is a human settlement in Uasin Gishu County, in the southwestern part of Kenya. This part of the country, where the two counties of Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet County share a border, is used by the majority of Kenyan professional long-distance runners to train for professional competition. Eliud Kipchoge, the marathon world record holder, who also doubles as the Tokyo Olympics and Rio Olympics marathon gold medalist, maintains a training camp in Kaptagat.

Kenya will compete at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics from 15 to 23 August. A team of 43 athletes was announced in preparation for the competition. Selected athletes have achieved one of the competition's qualifying standards. The Kenyan team, characteristically strong in the middle- and long-distance running events, includes reigning world champions Alfred Yego and Janeth Jepkosgei, and reigning Olympic champions Pamela Jelimo, Nancy Jebet Lagat, and Brimin Kipruto.

The 3000 metres steeplechase has been held as an event at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in the men's division since 1983 and in the women's division since 2005. It can be noted for a series of lengthy winning streaks in the men's division, where Kenyan born athletes have won every championship since 1991. Moses Kiptanui won three in a row, 1987-1995, Saif Saaeed Shaheen, born Steven Cherono, won two in 2003-5. The longest winning streak in any event in the World Championships, is 5 in a row by Ezekiel Kemboi, 2009-15. More remarkably, Kemboi prefaced that streak with a streak of three silver medals, 2003-7. 2007 champion Brimin Kipruto has a complete set of medals, including two bronze. Kenya has also fared well in the women's division winning 9 of the 21 medals issued to date. 2013 women's champion Milcah Chemos Cheywa also has a complete set of medals.
