Kota Shrinivas Poojari is an Indian Bharatiya Janata Party politician hailing from Kota,Karnataka. He served was the Minister of Social Welfare Department and Backward Classes Welfare Department of Karnataka between 2021 and 2023. [1] He was also the Leader of the House,Karnataka Legislative Council and the COVID-19 Management District in-charge Minister for Kodagu. [2] He has been appointed the BJP National Executive Committee member from 7 October 2021.
Poojari handled several crucial posts in Karnataka politics. He was first elected to the Karnataka Legislative Council for a term from 6 January 2010 to 4 January 2016 representing the Dakshina Kannada Local Authorities Constituency and was re-elected for the term from 6 January 2016 to 5 January 2022. [3] He served as the Leader of Opposition,Karnataka Legislative Council from 7 February 2018 to 26 July 2019. [4] During the tenure of the previous cabinet under B. S Yediyurappa as the Chief Minister,he handled the portfolios of Minister of Muzrai from 20 August 2019 to 28 July 2021,Minister of Ports &Inland Transport and Minister of Fisheries from 20 August 2019 to 21 January 2021 and Minister of Backward Class Welfare from 21 January 2021 to 28 July 2021. Poojari was born on 15 November 1959 in Kotathattu,Karnataka to a Kannada-speaking Billava Family of Annayya and Lacchi Poojari as the youngest among their three children. He completed upper primary schooling till grade seven and then initially started to work at a provisional store to support his family. After a few years,while his family received agricultural land from the government,he started the vocation of farming which he continues. He has been an active voice in raising the local issues faced by his village since a very young age and used to frequently write columns in newspapers to draw the government's attention to these problems. At that time,writers of columns were also asked to send photographs for their articles and this prompted Shri Poojari to purchase a camera and learn photography. He then opened up a photo studio "Swathi" in his village and pursued the profession for several years. [7] It was during his stint with photography that he had taken an iconic picture of the acclaimed novelist Shri Kota Shivaram Karantha batting on the cricket field on the occasion of a cricket tournament inauguration in Kota. This picture is widely used in several articles and documentaries about the writer. Even during his life as a photographer,he continued engaging in raising people's struggles and tribulations ensuring that their requests are heard and heeded. A prominent instance of his intervention is while the people of Kodi-Hosabengre region faced severe drinking water scarcity,he coordinated the women from the region and staged a strong protest at the District Administration office which led to the administration yielding to their petition. Poojari began his political career in 1993 as a member of the Gram Panchayat. In 1996,he was elected as a member of the Taluk Panchayat and in 2006 as a member of the Zilla Panchayat. During his term at the Panchayat,he undertook initiatives such as building the Dr Shivaram Karanth theme park in memory of the Kannada novelist Shivaram Karanth [9] and instituting the Dr Shivaram Karantha Huttoora Prashasti, [10] an award presented to recognise exceptional services or performance. Poojari was a frequent writer of articles in the newspaper Mungaru Pathrike. He led the fight for distribution of Sec 94C title deeds to people by organising a "Padayatra" across the Udupi district and petitioned to the Assistant Commissioner's office. He was also at the forefront of the protests in Udupi district against the inadequate sand laws.
In the following years,Poojari worked in several positions of the Karnataka State BJP. In 2009,he was elected for the first time to the Karnataka Legislative Council. He served as the Minister of Ports &Inland Transport and Minister of Muzrai from July 2012 to May 2013 in the cabinet of the then Chief Minister,Jagadish Shettar. Poojari is widely regarded as a simple and uncorrupt politician admired for his oratory skills and service oriented initiatives.[ citation needed ] In 2021,allegations were leveled against Poojary over his construction of an expensive house. He responded by writing to the Karnataka Lokayukta to probe the charges against him. [11]
Kundapra,officially Kundapura,is a coastal town situated in the Udupi district of the state of Karnataka,India. This town was known as Coondapoor while it was part of the erstwhile South Canara district (1862–1947) of the Madras Presidency of British India. Present-day Kundapur is administered by the Kundapur Town Municipal Council and serves as the headquarters of the Kundapur Taluk of Udupi district.

Ramachandra Guha called him the "Rabindranath Tagore of Modern India,who has been one of the finest novelists-activists since independence". He was the third writer to be decorated with the Jnanpith Award for Kannada,the highest literary honor conferred in India. His son Ullas is an ecological conservationist.
Siddaramaiah,also referred to by his nickname Siddu,is an Indian politician who is serving as the 22nd Chief Minister of Karnataka from 20 May 2023. He also held that position previously from 2013 to 2018,being only the second person to hold that office for a full five-year term. He belongs to the Indian National Congress and is presently the leader of the Congress Legislative Party. He represented the Varuna Assembly constituency from 2023,previously from 2008 to 2018,Badami Assembly constituency from 2018 to 2023,and from Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency from 2004 to 2007,1994 to 1999 and from 1983 to 1989 in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1996 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2005 while he was a member of the Janata Dal and Janata Dal (Secular). He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Assembly on two occasions from 2019 to 2023 and from 2009 to 2013. Siddaramaiah was a member of various Janata Parivar factions for several years.
Ramakrishna Mahabaleshwar Hegde was an Indian politician who served as the third Chief Minister of Karnataka for three terms between 1983 and 1988. He was elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 1957,1962,1967,1983,1985 and 1989,and to the Rajya Sabha for two terms,1978–83 and 1996–2002. He also served as Minister of Commerce and Industry in the Union government (1998–1999).
K. Sharanappa Eshwarappa is an Indian politician and a senior Bharatiya Janata Party member,who was the 6th Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka,in the government headed by Jagadish Shettar. He has also served as the Minister for Energy,Minister for major irrigation and water resources and also the State President of BJP Karnataka unit. On 20 August 2019 he was inducted as a Cabinet Minister in the BJP government led by B.S. Yediyurappa. He was Minister of State for Rural development and Panchayat Raj of Karnataka from 20 August 2019 to 14 April 2022. He served as Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council (2014-2018).
Udupi district is an administrative subdivision in the Karnataka state of India,with the district headquarters in the city of Udupi. It is situated in the Canara old north Malabar coastal region. There are seven taluks,233 villages and 21 towns in Udupi district. The three northern tehsils of Udupi,Kundapur and Karkala,were partitioned from Dakshina Kannada district to form Udupi district on 25 August 1997. Moodabidri was officially declared as new tehsil (taluk),separated from Karkala with effect from 11 January 2018.

Kalmady Gopala Poojary is an Indian politician who is the current Chairman of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Baindur. He was born in Kalmady,Byndoor in August of 1959 to a poor farmer family. After graduation Gopala Poojary moved to Mumbai to find work. On his return to Karnataka,Gopala Poojary started his restaurant business in 1984. Introduced to politics through his political Godfather S Bangarappa. Gopala Poojary contests election for the first time as a member of the KCP in 1994 garnering 10436 votes. Gopala Poojary contests the 1996 by election as an INC candidate for the first time winning the election by 8000 votes. Gopala Poojary goes on to win the next two elections registering a hattrick of wins in 1996,1999 and 2004. He tasted defeat for the first time in 2008. He later went on to hold the Udupi District President Post. Gopala Poojary contests election once again in 2013 and wins by a margin of 31000 votes. He is defeated in the election of 2018. Gopala Poojary is considered to be a very senior leader in Udupi and is regarded as "Badavara Bandu" and lauded for being a simple politician in his hometown Byndoor.
Byrathi Basavaraj is an Indian politician who is a 4th time MLA and ex-Minister of Urban Development of Karnataka from 4 August 2021. He started social service and entered politics and became panchayat member and president. He became corporator for Hoodi ward in 2009 and contested Krishnarajapura Vidhanasabha constituency in 2013 and became MLA for the first time from congress. He became second time MLA in 2018 general elections from congress. In 2019 after his resignation,he contested from BJP in by election and won with a huge margin. Later he became minister for Urban Development in B S Yediyurappa cabinet and second term minister in Basavaraj Bommai cabinet. He won as 4th term MLA in 2023 assembly elections.

It is a major tourist attraction of Puttur. It attracts large number of tourists due to the availability of multiple facilities.
