Koumbal Arrondissement is an arrondissement of the Kaolack Department in the Kaolack Region of Senegal.
The arrondissement is divided administratively into rural communities and in turn into villages.
The Kaolack region is a region in Senegal. It borders Gambia and is a common stopping point for travel between Dakar and Banjul. Its borders correspond roughly to the Saalum Kingdom of precolonial days, and the area is still spoken of as the Saalum in Wolof, and its inhabitants are called Saalum-Saalum.
Senegal is subdivided into 14 regions, each of which is administered by a Conseil Régional elected by population weight at the arrondissement level. Senegal is further subdivided into 46 departments, 103 arrondissements and by collectivités locales which elect administrative officers. Three of these regions were created on 10 September 2008, when Kaffrine Region was split from Kaolack, Kédougou region was split from Tambacounda, and Sédhiou region was split from Kolda.
Kaolack is a town with a population of 298,904 on the north bank of the Saloum River about 100 kilometres (62 mi) from its mouth and the N1 road in Senegal. It is the capital of the Kaolack Region, which borders The Gambia to the south. Kaolack is an important regional market town and is Senegal's main peanut trading and processing center. As the center of the Ibrahimiyya branch of the Tijaniyyah Sufi order founded by Ibrayima Ñas, it is also a major center of Islamic education. The Leona Niassene mosque (right) in Kaolack is one of the largest and best known in Senegal.

Fatick department is one of the 46 departments of Senegal, one of the three departments making up the Fatick region, and lies on the road between Mbour and Kaolack. The Fatick region is home to many Sereer people ; the Sereers are one of the major ethnic groups in Senegal and there are four Sereer dialects. At least 99% of the regional area consists Seereer, notably of Seereer Niominka people, and less than 1% of migrant Fulbe.
